CATIA is the world's most widely used engineering and design software for 3D CAD product design. It's utilised in industries including aerospace, automotive, consumer goods, and industrial machinery to design, model, analyse, and create items.
CATIA is a computer-aided design programme, and AutoCAD is a computer-aided drafting programme. AutoCAD is a 2D drawing and drafting programme that, in general, draughts images in the same archetype as engineering graphics drawings.
CATIA and Solidworks are both owned by the same corporation and perform similar tasks. CATIA is widely utilised in the automotive and aerospace industries, and it is mostly focused on surface modelling. Solidworks is a 3D modelling software for components and assemblies.
AutoCAD is used for both 2D and 3D design, whereas Catia is only used for 3D design. AutoCAD is primarily used in civil engineering, while Catia is primarily used in mechanical engineering.
As you can see, Catia and SolidWorks are both sophisticated CAD programmes, but they serve different purposes. Catia can design the entire aeroplane, however SolidWorks is better for product design and machinery.
