Create drawings for production using a flat pattern, which is the shape of the sheet metal part before it is manufactured. Flat patterns depict bend lines, bend zones, punch locations, and the overall contour of a part with all bends flattened and bend variables taken into account.
In the Sheet Metal environment, use the Tools tab Flat groupFlatten command to produce a flat pattern in the same file as the formed sheet metal item. A Flat Pattern feature is added to the PathFinder tab when you flatten a sheet metal part with the Flatten command.
Creating an Unfolded Perspective
Click Unfolded View in the Views toolbar in the Drafting window ( Projections sub-toolbar). On the part, choose a surface. The sheet metal reference wall plane will be used automatically.
Select the sheet by clicking it. The expanded view is shown.
Choose an axis line to work with.
The method of cutting a 2-dimensional pattern on a flat surface is known as flat pattern cutting. Rather than utilising paper to draught or draw out the pattern, the pattern cutter would most likely employ blocks - a conventional pattern based on specific proportions.
