Introduction to CATIA V5 Surface Design

  • In the Surfaces toolbar, click Fill.
  • To create a closed boundary, choose curves or surface edges.
  • To establish continuity between any selected support surfaces and the fill surface, use the Continuity type.

A surface is a form with no thickness. Surfaces allow us to constrain and build complicated or even relatively basic structures that a solid model would struggle to constrain and produce.

  • First, connect all of the surfaces where the solid will be generated.
  • Open the Partdesign workspace.
  • From the Surface based features, pick the closed surface and select the surface.
  • Then press the "OK" button.
  • To see the solid part, hide the surface.

  • Trim the surface that needs to be closed.
  • Press the Close Surface button. The dialogue box for Close Surface Definition appears.
