Trim/extend is a feature that allows the user to cut or extend any part of the weldment without having to re-weld. This feature in SolidWorks Weldments is revolutionising cutting prototypes. It automatically calculates the cut length based on the blade's selected length and speed. In this SolidWorks Weldments tutorial, we will discuss the differences between these processes and how each one can be used to achieve different goals. The ability to trim parts in SolidWorks Weldments has been around for several years, but it was not until recently that this feature became widely used by designers and engineers. Trim/extend in SolidWorks Weldments is becoming more popular in the manufacturing industry as it offers a lot of benefits such as saving time, increasing productivity, and creating better quality parts. The process has been simplified with this new feature. SolidWorks Weldments Trim Weldments are used to protect the surface of a part from heat, chemicals and abrasion. They are used as a protective layer between the part and the surrounding environment. Trim is an essential part of any weldment that is required for the weldment to function properly. Weldments need to have a uniform thickness across their entire surface. To ensure that your weldment is strong enough, it has to be trimmed up before it is used. SolidWorks Weldments Extend Function SolidWorks Weldments Extend is a function that lets you extend the functionality of a SolidWorks part. Trim/Extend (Weldments toolbar) or Insert > Weldments > Trim/Extend will open the Trim/Extend PropertyManager.

Extend each horizontal line until it reaches the right-hand finished shaft design. You're ready to start trimming once you've stretched all of the lines that need to be extended. Even if you started with the EXTEND command, you can start reducing lines right away by pressing and holding the SHIFT key.

A weldment is an object that is a combination of two or more components. It is created by welding the component parts together. Trimming a weldment by trimming its exterior faces and also deleting their endpoints (the trimming process is similar to that of an extrusion) 4. Extending a weldment by adding new faces on top of it and deleting the original faces (the process is similar to that of an extrusion)
