The advanced mate command is a SolidWorks command that allows you to quickly and easily make mates by automatically plotting the mate points and then optimizing your design for best fit.
You can use the advanced mate command in three different ways:
- by specifying the desired axis of rotation and/or orientation;
- by specifying one or more reference planes; or
- by specifying one or more desired coordinates.
Advanced mates include limit, linear/linear coupler, path, profile center, symmetry, and width mates. Limit mates allow components to move within a range of values for distance and angle mates. You specify a starting distance or angle, and a maximum and minimum value.
There are three types of mates in SolidWorks. They are the Mechanical Part mates, the Flange mates, and the Face mates.
The first two can be found on parts that have features that require each other to function properly. The third type is used to attach surfaces between one face and another.
