Click Insert Part (Features toolbar) or Insert > Part while a part document is open. Open a portion document by browsing to it. The PropertyManager for the Insert Part appears. Select any combination of items from the inserted part to include in the derived part under Transfer.
Insert > Component > New Part (Assembly toolbar) or New Part (Insert > Component > New Part). In the Save As dialogue box for externally saved parts, type a name for the new part and click Save. Insert Part is a tool that allows you to insert a base part into another part document. Using the Insert Into New Part command, you can make a new part from of solid or surface bodies. You can use Mirror Part to make a part that is the polar opposite of another part.

From the list of files displayed, choose a part or assembly file.
Choose Import to bring the SolidWorks part or assembly into the existing assembly and assemble it as an imported component.
