FAQs

Solidworks is a parametric 3D CAD software that helps you create anything from basic shapes like cylinders, cubes, and spheres to more advanced parts like gears and girders. This program is also perfect for creating 2D drawings that can be imported into other programs, like AutoCAD. This software supports 3D sketching with the use of tools like the Interactive Sketchpad which lets you draw sketches with either your mouse or keyboard. You can also use this feature to create an exploded drawing by drawing over the surface of an object where you want it to break open. Click Point or Tools > Sketch Entity > Point , and add multiple sketch points to represent the pattern you want to create, based on the seed feature. Close the sketch. Click Sketch Driven Pattern (Features toolbar) or Insert > Pattern/Mirror > Sketch Driven Pattern.

A linear pattern is a pattern that makes the shape of something along a straight line. It can be used in various engineering contexts. Linear patterns are used in manufacturing, civil engineering, and construction design. A linear pattern is used to provide a specified distance between parts or lines on an object. For example, if you want your machine tool to have an interval of 10 inches on the work piece while it runs at 1,000 RPMs, you can use a linear pattern to create that distance.

Different types of patterns are used in the manufacturing industry. For example, the pattern on a sheet of metal is called striation while there are different types of textures like embossing, ribbing, and contour. To edit a linear pattern - Select Pattern from the FeatureManager design tree then select Linear Pattern from the ribbon. To edit an even-odd pattern - Select Patterns > PropertyManager > Line Pattern > Edit Line Pattern.
