FAQs

There are three very easy steps to create a 3D sketch. First, you need to draw the object on paper with pen or pencil. Second, you need to take a photograph of the drawing. Third, you need to flip your photograph horizontally so that it fits on your computer screen. Once you have completed these three steps, you will have a 3D sketch of your object!

The process of converting 2D sketches to 3D sketches in SolidWorks is called "sketching and rendering". Creating an accurate 3D model starts by making a sketch. This can be done by hand or with the help of CAD software. After that, there needs to be a render made of the sketched object. This render helps in showing the model as it will appear after it is fully designed and modeled. You can import a 2D drawing directly into a sketch in a part document for conversion into a 3D model. To create a base feature from a 2D drawing, extract sketches to specify the appropriate views. After extracting sketches for conversion to a 3D part, you can align the sketches before creating the base feature. The process of converting 2D sketches into 3D sketches starts with creating a sketch on paper using pencils and other tools such as markers and pens. Next, you export this sketch as an image file to your CAD software so that it can be imported into your design file and integrated into your project. Then you need to create a render from this image file before you can export

Sometimes a simple sketch can help a designer visualize a product idea. This is especially true for those designers who are new to the design process and need a quick-start on developing an idea. To make a sketch in SolidWorks, first open the toolbox on the lower left corner of your screen. Then, click on "Tools > Sketching" to open the sketching tools. Once you’ve opened this toolbox, click on “Sketch” and choose from one of the four tools: Line, Rectangle, Circle or Arc.
