Rapid Sketch in Solidworks

We are instructed to do rapid sketching as a practise to get our hands to move fast and crisply. Due to the limited time available for sketching any subject when travelling by train, it has become a favourite pastime.

  • Select 3D Sketch from the Sketch toolbar or Insert > 3D Sketch from the Insert menu.
  • Choose one of the following options: The Sketch Plane PropertyManager can be accessed by clicking Plane (Sketch toolbar) or Tools > Sketch Entities > Plane. The accessible relations under First, Second, and Third Reference are based on geometry that already exists.

  • Make the sketch smaller.
  • Make your tools as simple as possible.
  • Stick to a limited colour scheme.
  • Don't get caught up in minor minutiae.
  • Suggest details/textures just in specific sections.
  • Acquire the ability to stylize specific elements (people, trees etc)
  • Shade with only two values (dark and light)
  • Instead of using lines, try sketching with tone.

Window Choose the sketch entities you want to reposition. Second, press and hold the CTRL key on your keyboard while selecting entities from one of the Sketch's Points.
