How to Use the Offset Command in AutoCAD

This video will Learn How to Use Offset Command and What is Offset Command in AutoCAD.

Using the offset Command, we can draw parallel lines, parallel curves, concentric circles, concentric rectangle, etc...

One by one, we will see that how we can draw all of this. We can use offset Command from our modify panel and also from our Command prompt window.

The shortcut key for the offset Command is the 'O+Enter' key.

When we select offset Command, the first thing we will be asked to do is to specify offset distance. We will give a certain distance, and after that, we will select any line, and then a parallel line will be drawn at our provided distance from it.

Now we can see one door has been drawn on our screen, in which it includes certain shapes like rectangles, designs made with the help of ellipse and circles, and many more.

Now we will see how we can draw such a door with the help of the offset Command.

We will first draw a rectangle, and inside that, we will draw another rectangle with the same method of offset command. We will join every corner of the rectangle with another rectangle to provide it a certain design.

Whenever we use the offset Command, we will be asked how much offset distance we want to give from the source object to draw the new object. We will provide it according to our requirements.

So by creating certain types of designs with the help of the offset Command, we will draw the door with designs.

We can always offset close objects inside and outside by specifying offset distance.

We have an option for offset, i.e., 'Through,' which doesn't ask for specifying offset distance, and we can draw the offset of the selected object wherever we want as we would know it's the reference.

We also have other option for offset command in command prompt such as 'Exit,' 'Undo,' 'Multiple' etc...

We can use the 'Multiple' option for drawing the offset of an object multiples times.

We also have the 'Erase' option in the offset Command, which will delete the source object and draw the offset object at our specified distance.
