XRef Command in AutoCAD
Now in this video, we are going to learn about the Xref command in AutoCAD.
We will first see that why we use external reference. If we want to merge furniture and layout in one file together, we can use the Xref command.
The shortcut key for using the Xref command is the 'X+R+Enter' key. As soon as we use this command, one menu will open in front of our screen. And on the top left corner of it, we have been given DWG options, which used to attach any DWG file, image file, DWF file, DGN file, PDF file, and point cloud and coordination model file.
In our case, we will select attach DWG file and then choose our required file, which we want to attach. As soon as we select the file, one dialogue box will open in front of our screen named 'Attach External Reference'.
We will see preview, reference type, scale, insertion point, path type, rotation, and block unit options in the dialogue box.
In which we will select attachment as our reference type. Similarly, we will edit all other options as per our requirement. And after doing all this, we will click OK.
After that, we will see that the file we selected has been added to the External References Menu.
Now will see that the furniture drawing file attached to the layout file on our main screen. As we select any one piece of furniture, the whole table .dwg file will be chosen.
The main difference between attach xrefs and overlay xrefs is that attach Xref saves a copy of the Xref drawing in our drawing while overlay Xref creates a link to the Xref drawing in your drawing.
