A countermeasure is an activity, procedure, device, or system that can protect a computer, server, or network from threats by preventing or mitigating their consequences.

Cryptography methods, human factors, and intrusion detection methods are among the countermeasures that can be categorised into three groups.

Antivirus software detects, removes, and prevents malware infestations on a computer or network. Antivirus software, while designed to combat viruses, can also help with spyware, adware, and other unwanted software.

Logical Countermeasures include proper network firewall configuration, application and operating system password security, IPS (Intrusion Prevention Systems), VPN (Virtual Private Network), and others.
