TOPIC: How to set Layout and options with layout customization
Hello Friends
Welcome to Learn Vern
This side is (name) and I welcome you all to today’s video. So, in the last video, we learned about Print & Plot. In today’s video, we learn about Layout and Layout Design. So, let’s start with how we can prepare a Layout.
So, here you can see in AutoCAD that there are a lot of drawings available. That is, I have copied one single drawing many times. I did this so that I can make you all understand easily how we can use a Layout and what is the actual use of it. Okay?
So, here I have made a rectangle over here. I have the offset of the rectangle, then I have made a center line over here, then across which I have made with the help of line command. And here I have made a mid to midline. Okay? So, over here, I have added multi-text with the help of “MT”, and then I have copied this drawing and made its option as multi, that is, I can copy one single object as many times I want. So, we should know one thing that whenever we make a drawing in AutoCAD, we all know about this as we have learned about it in previous videos that these drawings are available to us with scaling and suppose if we change the scaling according to ourselves, then whatever drawing I use or insert, will be according to the scaling or the input that is given to it. That is like this: 1 is to 1 (1:1), the current unit I have and for that, I will type “UN” and then “Enter” and then you can see over here that the current unit which is going on is “Decimal”, precision is Zero, and meters. That is, the onside or where my working side is or where the drawing is from, on that side, the 1-meter drawing and 1 meter which is the actual part is, so, here also we have drawn it of 1 meter. Then the layout which will be prepared in the actual size, that is whatever object I make or whatever I input with this scale 1 to 1 (1:1), that is the actual length of 1 meter, will also be made over here. Then suppose I changed the scaling, so, when I changed the scaling that is 1 is to 2 (1:2), so, whatever drawing I will prepare, it will be actually 50 degrees. Okay? For example, the X centimeter over here, will be 2 centimeters on the actual ground. Okay? So, according to that, the scaling is set over here. I am explaining this to you all because, in Layout, there are so many facilities where we can represent different drawings with different scales. Suppose that I have these plans over here, so for that plan, we will draw elevation, so that I can make you all understand in more detail.
4:03
So, I have drawn this over here and now I will take its offset and the offset I want to take is of “1”. And then “Enter in inside. Okay? And from here, I will take the line command, and then we have to use the line command, then escape it. And then I have clicked enter once again and once, the line command is available to us. Here I need to insert text so, for that, I will type “MT” + “Enter” here I need to insert the first corner and the second corner, and now I will write here “elevation”, Okay? And then I want to change the type of the text so, we have already learned about these things so, we will get a revision of those things once again over here. Then the size I want to keep for it will be “2”, Okay? And now you can see that it is available. I will move it a little bit. So, after moving, I specified a point. And then it is moved from here. Now I want this whole drawing to be moved that is, I will move plus copy it also. So, from here I will go copy and then I see three options over here, “Displacement”, “Mode” and “Multiple”. So, I want to do multiple so, I will type “M” + “Enter”. Then I need to give a base point, so, here is my base point. So, when I selected it, you all can see that, when I click it on my object, then the object will be available. Okay? So, like this, I have prepared it. So, in the last video, we saw that, when we use the print option, suppose we do here “Control (Ctrl)” + “P”, and with that now the “Plot” is available with us. But what will be the Plot? So, from here, whatever we select in the windows or the display, suppose I have selected “Window” and then like this I have selected my drawing, then I will preview it once. Then you can see that it is prepared like this. After clicking escape, I will be out of that command. Then, by doing some changes, I can modify or customize my drawing. Okay? “DWG to PDF” and from here I can also select the paper size and then preview. And then you all can see that the drawing is available to us like this.
7:10
Now suppose I want another drawing besides this drawing for the print, that is I want another drawing with a different scale. And this can’t happen with the help of plotting. Either I have to change this drawing and its scaling or I have to use one option that is “Layout”. So, what are the advantages of layout? The advantage in Layout is that as a civil engineer or a professional when we make an object in AutoCAD or make some layouts or plans in it, and to that layout, we want it to be submitted in particular page size and a particular format or I want to save that drawing and after saving, I want to insert a fixed pattern and in that pattern also suppose, the different drawings in it, I want to represent those drawings in different scales and there I will use “layout”. So, let’s see what exactly a layout is.
So, whatever we have talked about till now, those were about, if I want to print or make a pdf so, what are the limitations in them. Limitations with plot options. So, to those limitations, we can either overcome it or when we work professionally, in layout we can either print a drawing or submit a drawing. So, for layout, you can see below that right now I have Layout 1 and Layout 2 options available. So, when we work, the background you all can see and where you prepare your actual drawing will be your “Model Space”. Now you will Go to Layout and after going to layout, that drawing will be available to you. You can also click on Layout 2. That is, AutoCAD gives you two layouts already. Then we will see the options with the layout. So, when I right-click on a layout, from there I can insert a new layout from it. Then “Templates” in which the AutoCAD gives us default drawings or default layouts, we can use from here. Then we can delete any layout, we can rename any layout also, then we can either move or copy any layout, then we can select all the layouts also. Then there is one thing, that page which is showing me over here, the working space in the layout that we can see, and the white background, I can also change that. That is if I require that I want it to be in A-4 size or A-3 size or A-2 size or Standard size or the architectural layout view, so, I can use all those things from here and we will learn it in today’s video only. Then I can also directly print it. You can see that…. when I preview it, it has been plotted, that is, it can be “direct print” and as a pdf, I can save it also. Okay?
11:09
So, these are the options available and with which I will work. Then let’s see how the templates work. So, first, we will go to “Layout”, then to “From Template” then you all can see that I have two templates available and if I want more then you can see that “Architectural” so, these are templates available with me. Okay? So, we will get this template, then okay. Then you all can see that besides layout 2, my template is ready. And in that template, I can edit general notes. Here, the drawing or the sheet number, revision, date, then name, address, project name, address then project’s date, then what is the scale or the sheet number, I can edit these things over here. So, according to the actual size of the sheet, my drawing has been set according to it. Now, inside it, I can do scaling or after selecting I can also work with it, or if I want to make its size big then I can also do that. So, suppose I go to scale from here, specify the base point, and now you can see that I can make the drawing available as I want. If I want to make its scaling higher than I can do that. Here I will type 2 and then enter and now you can see that the drawing is bigger than before. Then I can make it move also. Then according to this if you want to print you can, so, you can go here, and then the plot option will be available to you. After going to the plot option, you will go to preview, so the print can come. That is in Layout, in a standard format, we can print anything we want and save as a pdf.
13:36
One more thing, suppose I don’t want to use the template and I want to make a new layout, so, I will go to the option “New Layout”, after going to “New Layout”, the layout 3 is now available. And I don’t want to use the layout showing right now, so, I will delete it. After deleting, there is an option after right-clicking, and that option is “Page Setup Manager”. After going in that option, like if my requirement is an A-4 size or A-2 size or A-3 size, then from here I will click on “New”, then I can rename it also or I can default it also. So, here it will be “A3” Size, then okay. After clicking okay, I need to do “drawing to PDF”. And from here I can select the page size. So, I have this page size. Then there is “What to plot” that is, of which thing you need to print or make its pdf. So, right now Layout. Whatever work we are doing is on Layout. So, here we will keep the layout only, and for scaling, we will keep it as “1”. That is, we have changed only two things, and you all don’t have to change the rest of the other things. Then “Okay”. Then, you will set the A3 size as set current and then “Close”. And now you will see that the boundary is now set and this boundary is actually of A3 size. Then we can make a rectangle like this. After making the rectangle,... we will take the offset, that is, right now the A3 size layout I have, I will customize it according to my requirement. Then we will control “Ctrl” + “Z”. then I will take the offset. After taking the offset that will be “0.2”, then I will make a line over here. So, for making a straight line, I will keep the “ortho” on. And whatever those commands are, we can use them here as well. Then I want to extend this line so, I will extend this line from here. Then “TR” and “Double space”, I have used a command and that command is “Trim Command”. Then I can make another rectangle over here. I am customizing this layout according to my requirements.
17:00
Then once again I will do the offset which will be “0.2” and like this, my layout is prepared. Then I can make a small rectangle over here like this. (25 seconds pause) So, whatever command I am using, like right now I am using the trim command, you all can see. Then once I will do the offset. Okay?
So, like this, I can prepare any layout. So, suppose whatever information I need to put over here like, the drawing number, drawing version, company name, project name, etc. whatever things I need to insert over here, I will insert it over here. For that, I have the multi-text and many other options that we have learned in our previous videos. Whatever things we use in a model, we can also use it here. Okay? Now, you all can see that there is no drawing over here, that is the model over here, it has all the drawings and these drawings are available in layout 1 and layout 2. Now, I need to insert the drawings available over there. So, for that, there is an option “layout” and click on that…. We have already learned how to create or insert a new layout or page…. Then whatever requirements the page needs, how can we insert them. The third option that we will learn is that, where I have three things available one is a rectangle, the second is a polygon and the third is an object, so first we will learn about a rectangle. That is, this is now my “View Port” which is whatever shape or size I enter the rectangle, then whatever drawings that are available in the model space, those will be present inside this rectangle. Now suppose, you need to represent a particular space or a particular drawing over here, or you need to represent a particular drawing with a particular scale. So, what will you do? Suppose the center ones “A, B and C” drawing, you need to upload it here. Now, you will zoom in or zoom out, you can see full page is zooming in and zooming out, which means if i have to do changes in view pod, then what do i have to do is double click, and after double-clicking it, the coordinates will be saved, and now if I do zoom in out zoom out, so these are the things I can customize. I want this drawing only according to my requirement, so; I will make a window for this drawing. The whole window space or the limits of working space for that we do zoom all that is “Z” + “Enter” + “A” + “Enter”. So, now we will do “Enter”, and now I have to take the window.
21:55
So, I will go for “W” + “enter” so, you can see that like this, although these drawings are a little close, I can specify them or make their distance a little more then there will be only one drawing. So, let’s try this also. So, I will move this drawing. Okay? ( 25 seconds pause) Now I will go to layout 3 and you can see that the drawing is available now. So, like this, I can change the whole setup. I can also edit all of these things that are according to the customization, I can set view over here. Then we will see one more thing, the drawing is inserted over here, and now I need to insert the elevation or if I want to move this then I can. You can see that the whole viewport is moving. So, in this viewport, we will “W” + “Enter”, I just need to show the plan only. So, here I have shown the plan. Then I will remove all these things…. Then once again we will double click on the outside with this click, we will be out of the viewport. We will take one more viewport, I will go to the layout then rectangle, then I need one more viewport so, now this viewport is available. Then I will double click on it, and here I just need to show elevation only. So, I will go here and “Zoom” enters, “W” enters… Then I need to select the window… So, I have selected the window. Okay? Then I will double click on the outside. And now you can see that these drawings are available. One more thing, suppose you want to print out these, then you will have a question that the centerline of the rectangle will be shown over here, for example, (10 seconds pause) I will Plot from here than to continue and then to preview, and you can see that these two lines are showing that the rectangle I have made, the viewport, is showing over here. So, for this also I have a solution. So, let’s see the solution to it. When I will go to “Home” then I have the option of Layers, then I will add a new layer. Then rename it as “LAYOUT” or viewport as “VP1”. Okay? And then “enter”... Then we will select this and make it “VP1”. Then I will select this also and make this “VP1”. Now what I have to do is that I will go inside this layer then option over here of VP, I will hide that option. So, when I will hide that option, then you can see that those lines are gone from there. (6 seconds pause) Okay? There’s one more thing, suppose, the viewport over here, and if I change its settings then the VP will be available more or bigger from here. Whatever changes I apply will be shown to you over here. Okay? Now suppose if I want to take its print out, Plot, then continue and then to preview. So, the lines over here are gone now because I have made the viewport with a layer and made that layer hide and if I unhide it once again then the lines will be on.
28:02
There’s one more thing that we saw was Polygonal. In a polygon, whatever shape we draw, inside that shape, the space or the model will be available inside it. Then after double-clicking on it, you can see that you can customize it as well. That is, according to my requirement I can customize my layout or if I want to change its scaling then I can also do that. Okay? So, now you can see that the VP line is thicker now… Why it is thick is because I have made the line thick over here,.. .I have changed the settings.
One more thing, I will go to layout, and then there is Object. And then we will learn what an object is. So, for an object, I will go home and make a rectangle shape. Then I will make another shape that will be a polygon shape. The sides I want are 5 and then enter, then select the center. And like this, the polygon is prepared. Then I will make a circle. Now what will happen is that suppose here, the drawings in these viewports or models then can be inserted by themselves. So, here I want to insert the shape inside the rectangle or the polygon or the circle. Here we used to double click but if I double click it over here then you can see that it is not working as a viewport. So, the third option over here, I will go to layout then select the object and after selecting the object you can see that my layout is available in it. Okay?... Let’s see it once again. I will go to the viewport, then select the object, and now you can see that my drawing is now available inside the object. Okay? So, if I zoom in and out, those changes will be here only. Okay? So, let’s see it once again because I have a circle also. Then I will select the circle and whatever drawings are now available in it. Okay? So, according to that, I can customize all these things. If I want a different view, then I can also do that. Like I want to make this grid available in this shape. So, according to that, I can do that. Then suppose, whatever rectangles I have prepared in this viewport, I will insert those inside one layer. Okay? So, the layer that is the VP layer, so, when I clicked on the VP layer, you can see that all those boundaries are now gone. So, according to my requirement that is I don’t want a boundary, so, I will go to plotting. The plot then continues. I will check its size also or the scaling I want, then I will preview it from here. And now you can see that my layout has been prepared on the A3 size layout.(6 seconds pause) So, these were the things where we can design the page according to ourselves, we can design our layout or in an architectural or in any format that is available in templates, we can use them also. And whatever we work, we work in model space so, here we got an advantage that when we work as a professional, then according to our requirement, I want to print this in a specific page set up and I want to save it as a PDF. So, for that, I will always use “Layout” because with the help of layout we can represent any drawing beautifully. We can save it in a pdf with plotting but we do have an advantage that with different scaling for different shapes of different objects can be represented in different ways and we can even print those all things in one size and one page and we can make its pdf also.
So, in today’s video, we learned about how to make a layout , how to make its design and where we can use layout and what are the advantages available to us by using the layout.
So, I hope whatever we learned today was understandable and you all will practice it andIf you have any queries or comments, click the discussion button below the video and post there. This way, you will be able to connect to fellow learners and discuss the course. Also, Our Team will try to solve your query.
