Sketching Logo as per Client Brief in CorelDRAW

In the last lecture, we learned one thing that is called “Conceptual logo design”.

We took the example of a “Patel Supermarket” and designed the entire logo.

OK!

Now we will see, if we have to create 100% our own ideology from icons to everything which will be created by us only.

Let's see how we will do that.

That is called total conceptual logo design.

Whole design by sketch, (OK!) without taking any help from the internet or any other material.

We have to create everything from stationary to logo design and their theme.

We have to make that a brand. OK!

If you have to make anything brand, then you have to start from scratch.

First, we will go to meet the client and start taking briefs from them.

We all meet at one place and have normal conversations with clients.

In that conversation we got some crucial information like what is the client company?

Client replied – We have an IT company.

And as you know IT companies have many types.

IT companies create software, websites, and digital marketing.

And some IT companies do laptop and desktop repair work, that is also called IT companies.

And we proceeded further and asked more questions.

We asked them, what does your company do? What is your core business?

They replied – our main core work is laptop and desktop repairing at your doorstep.

We considered that they provide a unique service. OK!

What we usually do is, when our system stops working then we have to go to the repair shop by carrying our system by ourselves only in a cab or auto rickshaw.

We have to go to the shop for repairs.

But our client has a business concept like, whenever your laptop or PC stops working then you just have to dial a number and their engineer will come to your door and repair your laptop.

Means that our problem gets resolved at our doorstep only.

The concept is a little bit unique, so our logo should be unique as well.

They also expect that We should create an exceptional logo.

We can proceed like that.

They went further and asked many questions.

We tried to grab all the information related to their logo.

After that they told us, they believe in “one stop solution for all your IT needs.”

They will provide repairing services and along with this they will also provide all IT related services as well.

If you call them, they will come to your doorstep and repair your PC and after that they will also try to resolve your problem.

It is not like it will work for three months and we have to call them again.

They will try to bring a solution in only one effort, so that we don’t need to pay again and again.

They always say that there should be a one stop solution for all IT problems. (Pause)

And After that, we asked them more questions.

What kind of logo do they want?

They described that they don’t have much understanding of logos.

They simply showed us the logos of Intel, LG and Dell.

Because that belongs to IT companies and also they don’t have much knowledge.

So, they asked us for suggestions.

So, what we did was show our chart.

These many types of logos are available here.

They are typography based, icon based, pictorial based, cartoonish logo and character design wise logo and we tried to explain every detail with the help of examples.

What is a typography-based logo? What is a letter mark logo? What is a pictorial logo?

After viewing all the logos, they asked us to create a “Pictorial Icon base logo”.

We need an icon in the logo.

Because they have the concept that, whenever their engineer visits their client place then their logo should be visible on their t-shirt.

It should not be only written rather it should be with ICON. OK! They should be recognized by their icon only.

We have to make our icon a brand and they wanted to explain everything by icon only. Our client had this kind of expectation.

After that, we said, ``It's OK. No issue at all.

And we talked more and asked more questions to them and gradually got information about their companies.

Let's see further, what information we received from them.

Then we asked the name of their company.

They told us the name is “EDUTECH”.

OK!

We discussed with them, whether they want an initial based logo, if we see their company name, the first letter is E, we should modify the E or we should make an icon based on their services.

They told us that they don’t have any idea.

That will be your call only.

If you want to make it on E then it's ok, no problem at all. And if I want to make an icon based logo then also there is no problem at all.

It should look and it should represent our company.

Whenever anyone sees this, they should feel that it is memorable. OK!

Let’s go further.

We also get information about their core services, so that it will be easier for us to select the type of logo.

As much information as you will get, it will be easier to work for you.

Let’s go further, what are their main services?

They told us that they provide other main services like CCTV cameras.

They have different branches for CCTV cameras, they provide services related to that. They also provide one stop solution there as well. 

Another one is WIFI. They provide WIFI related services as well.

Then desktop and laptop repairing.

I kept some icons here, so that we will get an idea that we can play with these icons. OK!

As I told you, we have to create an icon based logo.

First icon, we take CCTV. OK! We took the icon of CCTV and modified it.

How can we represent CCTV? OK!

We will see the practical directly and sketch how we can create that.

You have to focus on that as I will explain to you and as the logo will be created then you have to understand it gradually so that our logo flow will go that much smoothly. OK!

Let's start with how we can represent that much icon in our logo. (Pause)

In CorelDraw, we created this sketch. I printed this and scanned it.

First of all, when we assume a CCTV camera and if we take this kind of icon then it will not fit in our logo.

That’s why I took the simple one but their look resembles a CCTV camera.

Their icon is presentable like this. I made this small icon.

CCTV camera is done. OK! We can redraw this. And we trace it from PENTOOL.

We can create this again or we can modify it from basic tools.

This one was our CCTV camera.

Another thing is WIFI. To represent the WIFI basically it looks like this but I have shown it like that.

This is my own ideology, you will slowly understand why I kept it like this.

Then I gave this look from inside, so that I can keep the gradient inside it and it would be presentable as I wanted it.

This is also a pure sketch. Then It comes, this is an IT wave.

You have seen the normal waves like radiation waves or IT waves, through which information passed.

I created IT waves here. It will also be presentable, and we will use that as well in our logos.

This is our desktop and laptop repairing sign and I set it inside the desktop.

This is also one of my sketches. We can proceed further through this as well. OK!

Till here our icons are completed.

Lets see further process of our logo design.

First thing, We are being told that we can take the initial base.

We can initialize it as an icon.

We and our whole team made the decision that we can create on E.

We will add whole things inside the E. 

As we have seen that Camera surveillance, WIFI and their waves and computer & Desktop repairing, we have to add these many things in the E.

As you can see here, how I lined up everything in one line, E , Camera, WIFI, waves and desktop and laptop repairing.

After that, I created an E like this as you can see that camera surveillance is set here, we gave a cut from here so that I include gradients from here.

The simple look will not look good, so I kept a cut here to give a unique effect.

To define the E middle patch, I used IT waves and WIFI icons.

Here After that to bring some good look, I kept the laptop and desktop repairing icon.

OK! This much things are done. (Pause)

Now, we will see how we can digitally redraw it.

We will start to redraw it.

We will get something from this and we won't get something as well. OK!

We will start redrawing it. First click and start redrawing.

We will not take a round right now because we can define it later on with basic shape.

As much as possible try to work after zooming in, so that you can with precision.

We created this sketch with perfection and we added the grades.

And That why it is perfect.

But when we do this then we should work with precision.

We have to draw the basic shape now. I am doing it slowly so that you will get the judgement.

Whenever you have to draw a straight line then use SHIFT.

Try to work with good finishing, so that there will be no issue at all in our final output.

As much as you work with precision, it will reduce your finishing work.

Otherwise you have to refine it again with holding the node and it will consume our time.

Last point is only here. That’s it.

We will give a nudge of 10 and will keep inside.

We took this to the other side.

we will put color in this to check whether it's perfectly drawn or not.

Mostly it is looking good, it doesn't look weird, all the curves are good. We refined it a little bit.

Ok!

 Our first basic shape is done here. Now we will draw our IT waves. 

We have to use PENTOOL normally. This is like a zig zag line.

This is also important, so try to do it with precision as well.

One IT wave is drawn. 

But we will get issues with corner smoothness and to do that we have to do some tricks.

I am finishing this. Ok That’s enough.

We will take their width at 1 and we will make one copy of it.

If we made any mistake during the refining work, then we can take it from backup.

We will press CTRL + SHIFT + Q, then it will be converted from line to shape.

As you can see this is converted in shape.

Here, I will delete any one node, so that it becomes sharp.

So it becomes sharp from here and I will set it from here as well.

And from here we will do the same, we will delete any one node and refine it slightly. (Pause) Like this.

We got this as we wanted that. We have to make copies of this. Like this.

Our IT waves are clear.

Then this box. This is a simple box. You have to take a 5 inch node to the left side.

And here we have this round. Round is done.

But if you see the round, you will find a cut in our basic shape. And will we do that, let's see that again.

I made a copy of it and made it larger randomly.

That much. I trimmed this one. So we got the round of the same size and also got the cut as well.

We cut the round with this trick.

Now, we will talk about this thing. We will get this from the internet. We have to manipulate this. We will manipulate it.

Type FLATICON in google search.

As I told you earlier, you will get a whole list of icons here.

Download any good desktop from here and search the repair symbol.

Always download in SVG instead of PNG, so that it will be easier for you to change the color.

And repairing. You can pick any repair tool, so that it will perfectly set in that. Like we have this kind of tool.

We can take this as well or we can take any other as well. We will try to set this.

Sometimes what happens, whatever you sketch, it is not always perfect, there might be some ups and downs.

There is no issue at all in that.

We took this desktop icon.

We have to cut it from the center but before giving it a cut we will make a copy of it for backup.

And we will make it smaller.

This is inside that's why it has a straight cut but here it is round, so we will give a round cut. (Pause)

We will keep it this much deeper and slightly smaller.

We will make a big round. And here is the cut.

So like this our icon is set on the desktop.

We will make more better.

Our desktop and repairing icons become set.

We will define it better.

This one is done.

Now, We will redraw the Wi-Fi symbol.

First we will rotate this, so it will be easier if it is straight.

Otherwise make a copy of it.

After making a copy, we will focus on the Wi-Fi symbol.

We will crop this much part. OK!

Now we will rotate this then we will redraw, so that it will be easier for us otherwise we will not be able to redraw it in good manner.

I rotated this and we will start redrawing with the finishing. We will lock it.

First round is done. Second! And our second wave is done.

These waves are a little tricky because they are different and the internal part is also different.

We will start from here.

You have become little judgmental here, you have seen the turning points precisely.

As much as you do the practice, you will get the judgement.

How and where we have to keep the point.

Curve is such a place where you have to work very carefully because a single mistake there instantly gets highlighted.

Small curve below of this becomes ready.

We will reduce the nudge here. This much part is done.

Now, we will create the top part

and after that we will overlap it.

We will use our pathfinder. Here that thing finishes. (Pause)

We will take this and this into the other side and we will see our intersections. Because whatever is overlapping, that part will be trimmed.

I used the trim for right now.

Now see, we got the shape and we will refine it later on. This much part is complete. We redraw the WIFI. IT waves are done.

Whole E is complete with CCTV surveillance.

After this much part is done. What do we have to do?

How we will fill color inside this and second we have to design stationary into this.

We have to create a logo and visiting card and everything. So our stationary design will be completed.

OK!

This much part is completed.

What kind of color theme will go with this, that part is not informed by the client yet.

But we will do our research on which kind of colors are used in IT companies. OK!
