First thing, Font combinations. Second thing, We can make anything creative by combining the fonts.
Today, What things are we going to see?
Workspace and fonts! What is a workspace?
All the areas we have for work, like they asked for a 10 by 10 inch creative post or they want a flyer of 10 by 16 inch. So normally, we can create in A4 but all the content and detailing is provided to us and we have to maintain that detailing in a provided space of 10 by 10 inch, that’s called workspace.
And it is very important to manage that. All the information we have, that we need to set in that workspace, that is our art. That’s our artistic rule.
It is very important to understand this. We will try to understand this by normal cover page.
After that, we will learn typography and font selection.
First of all, Let's learn typography and font selection. Because font selection is very much important. There are many fields and we receive different kinds of clients or consumers, so we have created designs for them. Just like there is any CA or finance company, there we can not use creative fonts, rather we have to give sober and professional taste to them.
So for every field, we have to give a different feel. OK! So we have to create terminology according to them. We have applied ideology accordingly. Then we are able to perform better.
So, it is very important to understand the font selection.
Let's understand the font selection practically and after that we will make a small report cover page.
In the last lecture, we learnt the typography and the practical experience we had on the same basis so we will understand the font selection. In the last lecture, we did not see how to do font selection? We have only seen how to do typography? And what is typography? And what are fonts? And what is the importance of fonts? And which things should be taken care of.
So, first thing, we have to see that the word “creative” here that I considered in a very normal font and the word “Graphic Designer” is slightly creative and in curvy form. What is the reason behind this?
I have to focus on creative letters and to set that work in Graphic Designer typography, I kept it normal. If I kept both the fonts curvy then wont give that much attention. Because of that, I kept different fonts for both of them.
Our designer world is creative and cool and they are considered very artistic. And because of this, I selected a unique and curvy font for Graphic Designer.
Another thing, whatever is written in the bottom, all the dummy texts are in normal fonts. Normal and ariel font selected for that. What is the reason behind this? Only one reason. That thing we have to read. If I selected the same font which I used in Graphic Designer then anyone left it after reading the first line. What is the reason? Because it is not much readable as compared to this font. Some people can read calligraphy but some can not. That’s why I considered simple and sober fonts here.
And if anyone reads that then he will leave it after reading half a paragraph and wont complete it.
So, whenever you put any details or information portrait then always select simple fonts. And avoid creative or curvy fonts. You should not use calligraphy font there.
After that, I kept “creative” in curvy font and Graphic Designer in normal font. This is also a type of typography. I created this one little bit unique.
Readability in creative is about seventy percent and in Graphic Designer it is 100%. And I taught you in color combination, whenever you take dark background then always use light content otherwise if you take light background then use dark content. And according to that I created this whole thing.
Any color or font readability should not be killed. And their importance should not be hampered.
You have taken care of all these things.
Now, see this! Here also Creative Graphic Designer is written and After that their place, we can write Finance and investment. These kinds of firms are very professional and there we cannot use creative fonts, that will look weird. If anything, we have to show sophistication then we can make it attractive by using different colors or effects but always remember that we cannot select curvy and weird kinds of fonts. If our consumer or client belongs to a professional background then we have to select sober and normal fonts. But we can make it attractive by using shadow and spacing management.
What did I do first? I gave drop shadow to finance and kept it slightly above this. Then I grouped both of them. OK! And we cannot keep a chartered accountant like this because that is a separate department or separate title. I will keep it a little distant. I will select these both. CTRL + G and this is one group.
Now, we will align this whole portion according to our background. E!
Now, it is perfectly aligned and centralized as well. Readable also and looking good too. OK!
“Chartered Accountant Finance Investment” Like this, keeping in mind all the small things, we can make fonts better.
First condition is that whenever you select the font, first of all check the background of your customer, client, firm or whomever for you working or creating designs.
For example, If we have many things for kids then if we use this kind of font then it wont look good. For them, we have to use this kind of font like the word “creative” written here, which is related to kids.
In ice cream ads, we can use creative fonts. And for designers we can make something unique.
This was all related to fonts! OK!
We have seen which kind of fonts are used in designing and what are the ways to select the fonts. We have learnt font selection and spacing management.
Now, we will see in the next lecture, what is layouting and visual balancing?
This is also a part of font selection.
