Redraw & Sketch with Pentool

In the last lecture, what did we learn? We learnt logo design with help of Pathfinder and what kind of logos we can make with cut, combine and intersect that also we learnt.

First thing! Today's topic is Pen Tool, Drop shadow and transparency.

Pen Tool!

Pen Tool is used in those things which do not actually exist. For example, if you have imagined a character and then made a sketch of it but if you want to fill color and visualize it, how will it look? For that you have to use the pen tool in CorelDraw and redraw it carefully and fill color in that. After filling the color, we can make it beautiful and slightly unique then sketch as well.

OK!

Sketch is an outline made with pencil and we have to fill color in that outline. Ok Friends!!

Now, we are going to learn, redrawing with a pen tool.

These small sketches, if you redraw with a pentool. Ok! After that you have to fill in the color. Normally these sketches are created like this (black and white). All the cartoons, which we have seen, all of them are made like this by cartoon artists. Cartoon artists using pencil and paper or digitally draw a sketch of a cartoon like this.

After that, four angles of these sketches are being created and then it becomes a cartoon. Till date, all the cartoon and animated stories sketches are prepared.

After that, it is redrawn and decided which color, shading, gradient will be used and how it will look, all these happen digitally.

Today, we are going to learn the Pen tool.

First of all, this is a cartoon of Jerry and lots of you know him. We will see how we can redraw this with the help of the Pen tool. OK!

Let’s Start.

In CorelDraw, first we will take a small sheet of …….Pause……ten by ten. Today we will see two examples of sketches.

This is a very basic and simple example and after that we will see one detailed example.

Now, whenever you use a pen tool, then always lock the object. So that it does not move because we are going to redraw and sketch on that. We will draw a lining with a pen tool and during that it moves then the line will also move. Better you lock it so that it wont move at all.

You will lock it!

If you long press in this tool then you will find PEN, that’s a pen tool.

There is one small rule of pant tool, which I will brief you. In pen tool, the point from where you start, you have to end it there only. Where it ends, you will find a zero type thing at there, that is node. Ok!

After clicking, press SPACE so that you will get your actual pic tool, then you can fill color in this. If the outline is not complete, then you can not fill in that.

Like, this is incomplete, and we can’t fill color in this.

Shape is not created yet, this is just an outline.

We will redraw his Ice-cream. I will press SPACE again to get the Pen tool. Pen tool is here.

We will start from here. On the first point, you just have to click. OK!

And where we want a curve, we have to click there and stretch it upword, like this and don’t leave it until you get your shape. And after getting in shape, leave it.

Now, we have to go upside down and here is a turn. We have to turn that side and leave it. Now from here we have to go this side, so here in the center we will leave it and stretch this side.

All of these are matters of judgment and you have to bring judgment by practicing it. And you have to do more practice with the pen tool and then only you will get the right judgement.

Now, we have to go down, like that. Here is a little bit of curve and from here stretch it this side.

OK!

Now, you can see, here is a sharp corner. There we will not drag rather we will do a single click. If you by mistake drag it here then you wont get a sharp corner. As you can see that it becomes a curve here also. Right!

If you by mistake drag it then you have to break its node. How to break a node? Click ALT and after that click on node. That’s how we can break the curve. Then, you can continue it.

As I already told you, wherever is the corner, kindly do a single click. Zero is showing here. So we'll just normally click here.

Now, it can be redrawn in two ways. We can fill color on this and the base is created this much. And we have to draw this melt part as well, further I have to give darker shade here as well.

For that, what will I do? I will take this part outside with the help of a nudge tool. Because if I take 5 inch or 10 inch inside and when I want to go back to the same place then It will go there as before.

We take a specific distance of 5 inch. See here also, the small things which we learnt before will help us.

When we move to advance, then lots of things will be used. As I said, these things are very small but as we move further then these small things will be very much helpful.

Like, I will take this on the other side 5 inch. Now, I will redraw this melting part. Now, another thing I will show you for example in short.

If I do like this on the melt part. OK! You can see that line is not matching here, with the above lines. Right!

We cannot accurate this line. So, what do we have to do? Those things which we have learnt in logo design. In the last lecture, we learnt the path finder. How pathfinder will work here.

From outside …..PAUSE…….I will take any random shape and we have to work very carefully, like this. I took it from outside randomly and inside I worked very carefully. Why? Because if you take this outside then you can see the common part, now as we learnt in pathfinder that with help of intersect we can separate the common thing. We will do it here as well.

I selected both and clicked on intersect. I keep the outer part at side. Now, you can see that I got in perfect shape,No problem at all. If I want to edit here or want to change shape here. Then I will double click on it and nodes will be open. I will hold any node and will adjust accordingly as per my wish.

This is a very interesting thing, if you like sketching. You can draw this with sketching. This is done!

Now, this one. This is a straight line but we have to draw a shape. We have to draw a line as well.

I will show you once. I will draw the inside perfectly and the outside shape randomly. 5 inch side.

First, I will intersect with the base and then I will trim this. OK! So that, I get this cut properly. This is a cut.

As you can see, I got a perfect cut. I will delete its nodes. Delete!

I will take this line separately. Because we need outlines so that we are able to give shape. Here, we have to match it manually. DONE!

Now, we will draw this stick.

Corner is here, so I deleted the node the second time and the third time also deleted the word.

You just need to clear your judgment, so that you will get an idea about how much angle you need to stretch it or drag it, so you get perfect shape. You will learn this with practice only. You need to do more practice.

Ice-cream is done. We will give color to it. I will double click here…………..

Ok!

Here we will give it a cream type colors. …………………………..

So here, we will take slightly darker shade. Color will be the same here but it will be a little bit darker. First we color it then we will do a darker shade. RGB……………………………………

RGB is pending on this…….

I will select the whole outline and remove it. Only here one outline will remain, PAGEUP and I will make this outline thicker…………………….. 1.5 is enough.

Here we can take any color……………………..

We have to adjust here a little bit,We have to attach this point like this. We learnt that we have to adjust withholding nodes……..

We will adjust this too with holding the nodes.

See friends. One thing is done!

Now, we will come to the original cartoon. We will come to jerry. You have to see this carefully and observe what things are there.

One basic body is there and what is above that? Body color will be the same. OK! But where there will be different colors, First different colors will come in eyes then eyeball, tongue, mouth, nose and ears. Ears will be slightly darker because it is in backside. Belly will also be in different colors. Legs will also be in different colors.

Wherever we use different colors, we need to draw it separately. Same color will be in the body also. So first body and above that eyes, nose, above that belly and legs. So the first thing here is the body.

So first we need to create the base of the main body and after that we will put other detailing.

First things, we need to draw the bodies…………

We will start from here……………………..

Corner is here so I will delete the nodes. And this one is also deleted. We will not go inside now rather we redraw from outside only. We will take the inside part later on.

Inside means, I will return from here. Here, I will not go inside the hand, only redraw the major outside body.

You have to start from the basics. You have to take basic cartoons and start from that.

Now, we are creating an external outline only, so that we will get base. If we wish then we can keep the outline in this otherwise we can also keep color only.

Color can also define the cartoon…………………..

See, our base is created. OK!

Now, what will we do further? We have to create detailing separately. So we will go on detailing. Which we will see in the next lecture.
