How to Get Brief From Client to Design Logo in CorelDRAW

In the last lecture, What did we learn?

In the last lecture, we learned “What is a logo?”, types of logo, how to make a logo, color theory of logo, how to read a client's mind.

We learnt these small basic things about the logo.

Today we're going to learn, “how to deal with a client for logo design?”

We have to prepare little details in brief, so that we can ask the client. 

What kind of questions do we have to prepare?

First we can ask, provide information about your business.

What do you have to do? you have to list down all these questions on paper or you can make a form where all these questions should be mentioned, so that they can fill the form.

All designers have their own working style or different ideology.

Some designers ask these questions instantly in the meeting or some of them prepare a form of questionnaire or prepare google form.

You can work according to your methodology but you have to collect precise information so that you can create a good logo.

So first thing, provide information about your business.

What do you have to ask the client?

you should ask, kindly provide information about your business like name of business and describe the nature of business.

Second, describe your product, target audience, and industry.

Every product is different according to their business.

Salon business has different products, milk business has different products and clothes manufacturing business has different products, So you have to take the business name knowledge from the client accordingly in regards to their product.

So that you can understand their business and create logos accordingly.

after that it comes “target audience”

What is their target audience? As I already told you, Font selection matters a lot because The product is related to kids then the font selections should be according to them.

Because our target is kids, not mature people.

You have to make the decision according to the type of the people so that you are aware, what kind of font or logo we have to create for them. 

So to make that decision you must have an understanding of target audience.

After that it comes “industry”

From which industry they belong, like the travel industry, food industry, clothing industry, menswear, women wear.

it is very necessary to understand their industry likewise, From which country industry belongs, from which state it belongs.

If it belongs to Kerala, then you have to give the effect in the logo like it should be a little bit religious.

if it belongs to Gujarat or Mumbai, can you make logos according to them.

You have to have a good understanding of the industry, their background and their test, you have to ask all these questions to them and prepare a written note of it.

Whenever you start preparing a logo, you should refer to these key points.

You should consider these key points as main points and prepare a logo according to that. So that not a single point will leave and there is no chance of a wrong logo.

After that it comes “describe your brand values”

We have to understand their brand value. And also get awareness about their brand value in the market and what kind of logo they are looking for.

After that it comes “provide your company name”

This is a very basic question.

you must be aware about the company name, then only you are able to create a logo.

You can take an initial for the logo, as we learned you can prepare letter mark logos.

Then after, “provide your company slogan”

There are many companies, who have their own slogan or punchline.

You can keep that slogan or punchline below the logo. That will hit two targets.

Firstly, the punchline could become famous because of the logo and second one, it will provide sufficient information and good impression to people.

Always remember, take the slogan and punchline in the logo, so that you will be able to create a better logo.

Let's see further, What we can provide in the second question.

After that, You need to discuss with them how to “communicate your desired lower style”.

You have to ask a simple question to them, whether “do you have any pre-decided logo design in your mind” or “Do you have any idea regarding the logo?”

Sometimes what happens, your client or customer may have an idea regarding the logo design in their mind but they are not able to communicate or express it to you and you start creating a logo and they reject all of that.

So it is better to know their taste first and after that it will be easier to create.

Like you are making a pictorial logo, and they are looking for a combined logo.

You are making a little mark logo and they are looking for a pictorial.

So better, ask them first what kind of logo they want, Whether they have any reference in their mind because customers always demand those things, which they have seen earlier.

So that, they will tell you, “I have seen this kind of logo and I want something similar to that” because whenever clients reach you, they first do R&D on social media websites and after that comes to you for the logo. 

You will face these kinds of challenges but you must have to read their mind so that you are able to ask them what kind of logo they're looking for and it will save your time.

“Express what logotype you need”

Show them some options of logo, and provide understanding about the logo as we learned earlier, Like it is Coca Cola logo and it belongs to typography logo type.

So then other examples like Twitter bird And communicate that we can prepare logos like this also.

If they are confused then show them some options and ask what kind of logo you are looking for?

After that it comes “Design style”

What kind of design they want, because some of them have ideas regarding design in their mind, and we have to understand that also.

If they want a combination, they give them an understanding of the combination's variation.

After that, it comes Colors.

Colors are always used according to their industries.

If it is related to the IT industry, then majorly they use blue color.

It is very necessary to know their industry and desires.

Like there are some clients, who are very religious and they don't believe in color type, So they want their color according to their religious belief. 

There are some religions who only want orange color logos and they don't believe in the color industry at all, then You should try to convince them and if they are not agreeing then you should take care of their religious beliefs and try to deliver a good logo.

Inspiration!

Sometimes some logos are created by inspiration.

So that client can provide you with inspiration Or you can say it as a reference, then make a logo according to their reference.

So you need to take care of these many things.

Better collect this many things, so that it will be helpful whenever you make a logo.

Let's see the next point.

After watching this many things, the biggest thing is “timing and budget”. You have to decide the timing because in designing a logo nothing is pre-decided and you can commit that it will take this much time because it is a matter of creativity.

It is not data entry work or any normal work, which will be finished in a specific time. It needs a lot of R&D and how much time it requires, nobody knows that.

How that logo will be created that nobody knows, because you will do R&D, you will understand the client and their industry and every time you will face a different client, so nothing is prefixed here.

So whenever you visit the client's place, ask them two things, first thing, what is the expected time for completion of this logo? and what is their budget? and then create a logo according to that.

If you create a logo according to the time, then it will be easier for you because when you talk to the client about the timing, they will ask you to deliver within a short span but you have to convince them if they want a good logo according to their choice, then they have to provide some time.

Because if you try to deliver within a short time, then there are chances of mistake.

So it is advisable for you to take a good amount of time and fix the budget.

We will talk about the budget. Budget depends upon the industry.

If some simple grocery or food shop wants their logo then their budget will be different from big MNC companies.

So budget is also not pre-fixed and how much we should ask that is also not pre-fixed.

Then you can fix this kind of thing according to common sense.

You have to make some decisions by yourself only.

These are basic things, you have to understand it and then after you have to proceed further.

That's it. These many things are there, you should write them down on paper, record it or fill in the form.

And After that if you start making a logo then it becomes very easy for you.

Because you already have all the information and you have a good understanding of the client's mind, So that you will be able to deliver what they want. OK!
