Basic Shape Logo Design in CorelDRAW

e top align, bottom align,left align, Right align, Center align etc. We have seen all of these.

We learnt about alignment and distribution.

Today, we are going to learn about Logo Design. Logo design with Basic shape.

We have seen the example of timetable, and many more things can be done with alignment.

Now we are going one step further and we will learn about how to create logo.

With help of alignment and through basic shapes like rectangle, round, triangle etc. basic logos can be created. So, we will learn about these kinds of logos.

First logo, as you all are aware about this logo. This is a logo of HDFC.

This logo is created with rectangle shapes only. In this, we have to take care of alignment only. If you make any design, then their primary rule is alignment. Alignment should be proper then only your design will look beautiful and attractive.

Otherwise, even though you put the finIn the last lecture, we have seen the examples of alignment. All types of alignment, likest color, good information, good content and good selection of fonts but if your alignment is not proper and layout is not proper then your design will not look great ever.

Because learning about tools is easy but it is necessary to learn the rules. So, you have to learn the rules.

So, our first rule is understanding of alignment.

We are going to start practical.

So watch it carefully.

How we make this logo and further we will also see other examples too.

OK!

This is a basic logo of HDFC. We will start it.

We took a normal sheet. OK! Inside that we will draw a rectangle with proportion, as I taught you earlier, press CTRL and take the proper rectangle.

OK! With the click of SPACE, we will change their tools.

For centralization, as I taught you earlier, with the click of P, your sheet will come in the center of your canvas.

OK!

One rectangle is here. Now, you see it carefully, how many rectangles are there? There are red, white and blue.

We took Red. For now color it red and we will nil its outline. Then after, make it this much smaller. This is enough. And we will directly RIGHT CLICK, so it will be copied there and we will put white color in that. DONE!!

Now it's the turn of blue. Same process here. As much as you require, make it that much smaller and direct RIGHT CLICK and then put blue color.

See, the requirement of three boxes is complete. Now, what do we have to do? One, two, three and four these are the patches which we have to create with alignment. Here, we have to put patches in all four corners.

Normally, I made one random patch. And I will leave its outline as it is because it's in white Color so it won’t be visible.

Now think, where do we have to place this patch?

As you can see here. One patch is here. OK! On top, bottom, left and right of red. OK!

This many patches are placed.

But it is placed on top, left, right and bottom of red.

First, what do you have to do? Select it and then select red. Top align is done.

Now, we have to align it vertically. Click C. Done!!

 Click C for vertical align and T for Top align. Make it a little bit small. This much!

Fill white color in this and we will remove the outline at last. Now I need this one in bottom align. Then with the click of + (PLUS), I will make a copy of it. So I will get copy of same on it

Time – 5.10 Minute

Again, along with SHIFT, I will click on red and B. It is bottom aligned. Now, these all are selected. Then other select, means select outside. Means all selected items will be unselected. Now all of that will be unselected.

This one and this one. Both patches are selected together. Now, whenever I click again on this in the center then this rotation symbol will be visible. With this we can rotate anything.

Now, I will give you an understanding about rotation. If you clicked once then do the same click on that again, so the rotation will be visible on second click.

From here, without clicking anything, you can rotate with the help of a mouse. But if you rotate along with CTRL then it will rotate in particular degrees. So that you have control on that otherwise if you rotate like this without CTRL then you can never measure it perfectly. So always do it by pressing CTRL.

If you want it to rotate to any particular degree then you can put the rotation value here and it will follow that value like if I put 90 then it is like this and on 45 it is like this.

OK!

This one and with SHIFT this one and click second time, rotation will activate. Now, with pressing CTRL, it is perfectly here and with right click, it will be copied there only.

But if I do it without pressing CTRL, then it will be tough to match, or you can say it is next to impossible. Because it won’t be perfect and will not get good finishing. Hence, when I press CTRL it will come perfectly on the same angle and I will click RIGHT and a patch will be created here as well.

With CTRL + A, I will remove all the outline, and no one will get any idea that I made any cut here. CUT!! DONE!!

Now you can see that, perfect logo is created with good speed only through alignment.

There is nothing in that, only patches are here. Red patch is there. Red box and blue box are there.

And we have put four patches there. You have to take care of alignment only.

For center align – C

For vertical center align – C

For Horizontal Centralization – E

Top, bottom, left and right. Even If you practice a little bit. it will be well memorized in your mind that we have to use these alignments only.

Tools are very much important.

Now, we will see another logo and how it is created.

This is a normal round logo. We will do the same thing here but in a different way.

Because what we did in that one. We made a box inside of the box and there was no use of that much alignment.

We will use more alignment here.

Things can be done in two or three ways, now you should be focused enough to recognize the tools and choose according to your requirement and work in a speedy manner.

Now, we have considered a shortcut in the HDFC logo but in this we will take a long cut.

We will do it differently, so that the alignment concept will be cleared as well

As you can see, what is here? Only three rounds are there. Red, white and Red.

We will take different colors here.

Take orange color! This is a round, and I will take another round on this side and make it small. OK!

We have to align it with this. First I will click C,  now it is vertically aligned and click E, it is horizontally aligned. What happened? It comes in the center. Here it is.

Ok! Now I will fill white color here. Done!

I will make one more copy of orange and make it smaller. 

There are two or three techniques for selection, We can select with click or with dragging.

Now this one, click with SHIFT, C - vertical align and E - horizontal align. It will automatically come to the center.

Another basic logo is created here friends.

This is a little bit of a long cut but I took a long cut because you understand the concept of alignment. You won’t learn alignment by only speaking, you have to learn by seeing examples.

That’s why I keep on speaking about alignment and teach you as much as I can.

Let’s try this logo. Friends!

We will do slight modification on this from our side. We will curve any two corners. OK!

And here another thing is that the outline is very thick. We have to make our outline thick and we will take different colors here.

To make the outline thicker, outline properties are given here, you have to double click on that and see outline pen properties are open here.

 From here you can change any color, this is the palette and you can see the color viewer from here.

You can fix width as per your choice. Four is enough.

Let’s make corner rounded and line caps center or we can put inside, center or outsider. Right now, we are taking it to the center.

Always remember, behind fill and scale with object , we have always selected these two whenever you do any modification on outline. If you don’t do this then if you want to make the shape bigger than the outline thickness will start adjusting accordingly.

Like if you made it big then its thickness will get thinner. And the moment you make that shape smaller than the thickness of the same will increase.

So, you have to take care that, whenever you make any modification in the outline pen then you have to select both, behind fill and scale with the object.

 After that only you have to click Ok.

As of now, if I do scale in this, then no changes will come here.

Ok! Here is another box, which is on the left side.

Ok Friends! Now you think, how will I put this one here?

For two minutes, Do some brainstorming.

OK! Let’s See

I clicked it and changed the color and removed the outline.

T top align and left, left align.

Now see it here, it is coming above this and we have to keep it below. So for that, SHIFT + PAGEDOWN. Ok friends!

We have seen this basic logo also. Ok! This one was also a basic one. Ok! You can try this too.

Then after, there is one more basic logo, which we have to see and that is the Red Cross. This is also a basic logo, which is made with basic shape. We will try this once.

Click on PAGEDOWN, you will get more pages. From here you can select the number of pages as per your requirement and you can also adjust before or after and page sizes.

OK!

If you click PAGEUP, you will get your own different logos but always remember that whatever you made, it should be inside the sheets. Don’t keep it outside the sheets.

Put everything inside the sheets.

As you can see here in this, what is here? Two shapes and this is created with two ways.

With Click of P, we took it in the center, and I removed the outline. We make it in two different ways.

T and L. I made a copy of it and right aligned it. And, again I PLUS both of them and bottom aligned it.

I select this one then that one and I will fill white color in both of them and will remove the outline of all of it.

So friends, This is one Red cross created.

Another way is that I copied it and very easily finished it. So, to do one thing there are many different ways. So it depends upon you which way you select.

If you don’t have an idea about this way then you will do this with another way.

OK! But if you know about this, then you will always go with shortcuts.

So, the whole CorelDraw is based on logic. Like if you see anything, how is it made? That you have to think. You have to observe things. The moment you start observing things and getting an understanding of that, your brain storming will develop, and It will improve the logic. This whole thing is a game of logic.

One more thing, which we have to learn. Like, I kept this outside. OK!

I want to take this in the center, as you all know, we all directly click P. I clicked P and the whole shape got ruined as you can see. Why ?

Because everything came in the center. Clicking P, it brings everything in the center. 

See, this one also came in the center, all the patches also came in center. This one was already in the center. Ok!

But, is it possible that if I click P and this shape comes in the center as it is ? For that, there is GROUP, select everything and then CTRL + G. CTRL + G will create a group.

Ok Friends! I made a group with CTRL + G. Now, if I take it in the center, then it will never get ruined.

So always, whatever you created, made it in a group file. CTRL + G.

If I want to ungroup it. And you want to do modification, like changes in color, then as you can see it is selected whole and if I change the color then the whole color will be changed. See.

So, if i want to change color in any particular part or any modification like, want to delete anything or want to add anything.

For that, we have to ungroup it so it will make a different shape and we will be able to select any particular shape.

So for that, here group, ungroup object and ungroup all objects both are here.

Ungroup object means. Let’s first learn, what is an ungroup all object?

I clicked CTRL + G and then I clicked on ungroup all objects. So all the shapes will be individual. As you can see , But!!

Now, we will learn ungroup objects, only about the first number tool. What is this?

This works like, these are all my patches and I group it, Only patches and nothing else. I select the blue one and group all the four patches.

This is done! After that, you can see that only patches and blue are grouped. Now the blue and red are grouped.

We step by step or you can say one by one, grouped lots of items. Ok!

Ok!

Now, if I do only ungroup objects, then the first thing will be ungrouped which I grouped in the last.

Ok!

Red is separated whole.

Again, I have to ungroup it. Now what happened? Blue and patches get separated.

TIME 20 Minutes

Now, you can understand that, only with ungroup, all the steps taken by us will be open one by one. If we have put five locks then an ungroup will open the fifth number lock first and then another ungroup will open the fourth number of locks, after that third time, it will open the third lock and goes like this for second and one.

One by one, it will be unlocked.

But if we ungroup all, then all locks will be opened together instantly.

Now, this thing will be used that you will learn later, when we will do the actual designing and then you will understand whether to ungroup all or only ungroup. You will later understand the differences and fundamentals of it.

But, YES, You have to remember that when you need to ungroup and ungroup all.

CTRL + G for Group.

Now let’s go further. This is a basic logo but it is a little bit complicated as you can see. Not complicated but yes it is a tricky one. OK! We have to use a little bit of logic here.

Now, you see it once. How will we make this? How many triangles are there and how many shapes are used to build it.

First things, you can see one square here. OK! And how many triangles are there, one, two, three and four.

Four triangles, we can see that but if you see it carefully then you will find that there are six triangles. Because we have to calculate the white triangle as well.

That white one is also a triangle.

Ok!

We will start to create this logo.

We will take one more sheet.

One proper rectangle and we will change color in this. Blue color and remove the outline.

Then, Four triangles are inside the box. How will we do this? 

Here we made the triangle. We made it four sides…..Sorry…..do it three, so we can get a proper triangle.

With CTRL, we will rotate it.

Then, Left or E. It is touched here perfectly, and this came here. Now, we will bring it in proper size. See their center, here it is. So we have to touch it here as well.

So, a proper triangle is done here as per our requirement. If I put a triangle like this, then the width of the upside and downside should be matched. And to match with that I stretched it.

Then if I revert like this. See here is some gap. Why? Because I only considered the width and did not match the center yet.

Center is here. Corner of this must be touched here. You will get an indication that you have to stop it here. It will get locked here a little bit. You have to leave it here.

Now, directly flip it and right click it. These both are done. OK!

Now, we rotate this. We have to hold this till it does not move whole. You have to always move with pressing CTRL and directly right click.

So, four triangles are there with us. This is one, two, three and four.

Here four triangles are separate from us. We can color it.

In these two, we have to put white color only. Upside and downside, we will keep it as it is.

White Color. OK!

Means this much part is clear and created. Now, those triangles are outside or which are open towards the outside like a door. How will we do that?

We created these triangles and we will flip it and give the same color to both of them.

We will remove the outline then a proper logo will be created.

I hope you understand this one logically. Because it is a very easy way but it is very much important to use logic. How can we do this?

We can make it but it is important to make it in very less time. Keeping speed is very important and applying logic is also important.

As much as possible, think it in a logical way then think how to create it.

First of all, when you see any logo then observe it and understand which kind of shape is there and which kind of items are there. Where is the cut or from where it is rotated. From where alignment is taken? How many gaps are left? You understand all of these and after that you start it.

Don’t start it suddenly, you will not be able to understand. You will be able to create it but it will consume lots of your time.

So the best way is that, first of all this is the easiest way. Observe any logo and study it and after getting all the understanding then only start.

After that, when you start preparing it, then you will understand the tool and its logic automatically and be able to understand how to do that.
