The Excel LOOKUP function retrieves the comparable value from another one-column or one-row range after doing an approximate match lookup in a one-column or one-row range. The default nature of LOOKUP makes it beneficial for solving some Excel problems.

The key distinction between the VLOOKUP and LOOKUP functions is that the VLOOKUP function can only conduct vertical lookups, whereas the LOOKUP function can perform both vertical and horizontal lookups.
