When you need to search in a single row or column and find a value from the same point in a second row or column, use LOOKUP, one of the lookup and reference functions. Consider the following scenario: you know the component number for a car part but not the price.

The VLOOKUP function does a vertical lookup by searching the first column of a table for a value and returning it in the index number position in the same row. The VLOOKUP function is a Lookup/Reference Function that comes with Excel.
Select the data from cells A2 through C6 to designate the range for Vlookup. Then, in the Name Box, we may give the table range any name we want, as shown below. As illustrated below, modify the name to Sales Info. We'll use Vlookup in the second table once more, just like we did before.
