How to Set Password in Workbook

Go to File > Info. Choose Encrypt with Password from the Protect Workbook box. Select OK after entering a password in the Password box. Select OK after confirming the password in the Reenter Password window.

  • Begin by opening a workbook.
  • Select Save As from the File tab.
  • Choose Browse.
  • Go to the Tools menu and select General Options.
  • Type a password in the Password to Modify box and click OK.
  • Enter your password again and click OK.
  • Give the file a name and save it.

Keep the workbook's structure safe:

  • Select Review > Workbook Protection. Note: Only Excel 2007, Excel 2010, Excel for Mac 2011, and Excel 2016 for Mac support the Windows option.
  • In the Password box, type a password. Important:
  • Click OK after retyping the password.
