The CMR note verifies that the carrier (i.e., the road haulage company) has received the goods and that the merchant and the carrier have entered into a carriage contract. A CMR note, unlike a bill of lading, is neither a document of title nor a declaration, though some states consider it to be so.
A CMR bill of lading is one that follows the rules set forth by the worldwide CMR Convention. CMR stands for Convention relating to the International Contract for the Transportation of Marchandises by Route (Convention on the International Carriage of Goods by Road).
Consignment note CMR is another name for CMR. It is a document that serves as an international agreement for the regulation of road freight transit. Most European countries have ratified the document, which aims to control legal issues surrounding road freight traffic.
One of the parties in the transportation industry creates this waybill, or CMR. This is usually taken care of by the transporter.
A recent Supreme Court ruling shows how a consignment note issued under the Convention on the Contract for the International Carriage of Goods by Road (CMR) can be used to prove cargo delivery.
