The RODTEP (Scheme for Remission of Duties and Taxes on Exported Products) was launched by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry of India in 2020, with effect from January 1, 2021. This scheme only applies to goods exports, not service exports.
The RoDTEP plan, or Remission of Duties and Taxes on Exported Products, is a brand new scheme introduced by the Indian government to make exporting easier. On January 1, 2021, the day it was initially announced in the news, this programme replaced the previous MEIS scheme.
Exporters are entitled to 0.5 percent to 4.3 percent of the FOB value of exported products that fall within the defined HS Codes under the RoDTEP Scheme. Furthermore, similar to the Duty Draw-back method, the RoDTEP benefit is capped at a set amount per unit of the exported commodity.
The RoDTEP system would reimburse exporters for embedded central, state, and local levies or taxes that have previously gone unrefunded, putting India's exports at a disadvantage.
