An Importer-Exporter Code (IEC) is a critical business identifying number that must be used while exporting from or importing into India. Unless specifically exempted, no person may export or import without first obtaining an IEC.
Valid Email and Mobile Number are required to register on the DGFT website.
Access the DGFT website.
On the homepage, select the Link IEC button.
Authenticate your IEC with an Aadhaar-based OTP or a digital signature.
PAN of an entity will be used for the purpose of IEC from now on (with the adoption of GST), that is, IEC will be issued by DGFT with the difference that it will be alpha numeric (instead of 10 digit numeric at present) and will be the same as PAN of an entity.
Under the GST regime, an IEC Code is no longer necessary for import/export; instead, PAN/GSTIN will function as a new IEC Code number. The Indian government has taken another move to make conducting business easier. Import/Export will no longer require an IEC code, as the government has decided by notification.
