Role of Freight Forwarders in Air Shipment Export

The key roles that freight forwarding companies play in the export process are:

  • Warehousing: Freight forwarding companies offer storage facilities for products until they are shipped out. This can be done at their company or with third-party providers.
  • Transportation: Freight forwarding companies provide transportation services for goods from one point to another, such as from a warehouse to the port or from the port to the destination country’s customs office.
  • Customs clearance: Freight forwarders provide customs clearance services for goods that need to be exported and imported into different countries. They ensure that all the necessary documentation is submitted and that products meet all international standards.

The different types of freight forwarders include:

  • Air Cargo - This type of shipping is used when the items need to be moved by air. The items are generally transported in large containers or pallets and placed on a plane.
  • Ocean Freight - This type of shipping is used when the items need to be moved by ocean ship or cargo container. The items are usually transported in smaller containers and placed on a vessel that travels across oceans or seas
  • Trucking - This type of shipping is used when the items need to be moved by road transport or trucking company that transports

Freight Forwarding Companies:

  • Customs Clearance: Customs clearance is the process of a shipment of goods being cleared for import or export.
  • Warehousing: Warehousing is the storage and distribution of goods in a particular location.
  • Distribution: Distribution is the process of transferring goods to their destination.

Freight forwarders charge according to the complexity and size of the shipment. For example, a simple shipment will cost more than a complex one.
