Editing of Product Photos for E-Commerce

Hello friends, welcome once again to this wonderful effective strategic training  program.

So we are learning about ‘Introduction to E-Commerce Photoshoot’ & until now we have covered some topics.

Now comes Editing.

After we have done everything, for example - we have done the photoshoot, we have chosen the camera, lights as well as background & we have clicked the photos also.

What comes next?

‘Now you have taken every shot, then what next?’

Okay? What is the next step? Should I upload the photos just like that?

Stop right there. No, you don’t have to do that.

The photos that you have clicked, just like you can see on the screen, you have to retouch them.

What does retouching mean?

You can see that you have taken the photos from different angles, right?

Sometimes what happens is, there is a shadow in the background because of the light, sometimes the colours are not reflecting properly so you’ll need to edit that too.

‘Select the important images & get ready for editing’.

However many images you have taken of the product, suppose you have taken 50, 100 images, which normally happens.

So after clicking the images, please look at the images as to which image is very nice which we can show to the public.

Just as your photoshoot gets over in a day, the next day you have to see if it is necessary to edit the photo?

Yes! It surely is.

As you can see on the screen, before editing, this image is looking like this in the photoshoot, like I have taken the example of Coca Cola here.

You can see here in the right hand image, the effects on the same Coca Cola image after editing.

We resized it, did a colour treatment, Sharpened the colour combination, we also removed the background, retouched it to remove the unnecessary shadow, okay?

So editing is very important, friends.

What does editing mean?

It means to present your images in a proper way.

And I’ll also give you some examples which you would have seen before but might not have analysed them properly enough.

So you will need to start analysing like I said in the previous topic.

You need to do proper planning, you have to analyse how your competitor has done the photoshoot.

So you can atleast get an idea of how to do it.

Yes! You can do a photoshoot also.

And after that comes the final topic ‘Editing’.

Yes! It is very important, okay, so stay tuned.

So I’ll give you some examples related to editing.

First is an example of Chair.

Before the photoshoot, the chair was like this & after the photoshoot, you can see how the chair is.

If you have seen this, then that’s really good.

Another example is heels.

Many of you must have bought heels for someone or for yourself.

You would have seen such images related to women’s apparel, footwear, etc.

See, the product was like this before & later it became like this.

This is the before image & this is the after.

How does that happen?

It has happened only through editing.

Yes! See they have removed the background, made it stylish, improved the lighting, increased the colour combination.

Did you see that the colours look a little dull here & here they are shining a bit.

How would have they done it?

I’ll tell you but before let’s see this example.

If you belong to a food category, then you must be making a variety of products & you must be selling food through that.

So before editing, when you are doing a photoshoot, the image will look like this.

Then you have to match up the colour combination & display the product.

Like I have told you, whatever is visible, sells.

If you convince your target audience & the customer, that this is the product that they are going to get on the plate or at your doorstep.

Another example I’d like to give you is of bags.

See on the left hand side, you can see the before & then how it changed afterwards.

See, the colour combination, background, okay?

So friends, I think these many examples are enough to explain the importance of editing, okay?

Now how should you be editing? What are the options?

So I’m going to give you 2 options.

The 1st option is to hire a professional.

Yes! ‘Hire a professional for editing your photos’.

There are many professionals who use much better softwares, okay?

 If you are able to communicate & send whatever photos you have clicked, then they can edit the photos according to you & your website, by analysing that platform, they will manage how to edit it.

Friends, in editing, not only removing the background is important, not only colour combination is important but keeping a certain proportion is also important.

So a professional has a decent experience in the market, that is why they can portray your product & your business with many options, and can display it really well in front of your customers, okay?

You can search online, you can ask your friends or go to the market, go online & search.

This was the first option.

And if you have a lesser budget, then the 2nd option is for you.

Do it yourself.

You can edit your photos yourself with these free of cost websites.

There are many free websites such as Canva, Pixlr, etc.

You can simply search photo editing software or photo editing online.

If you search only this much, you will get a whole list.

I suggest Canva & Pixlr.

And finally if you add these two options, if you add these two options in your business, then you are ready & you just did it.

Yes! ‘A major task completed’.

What major task? 

You have done the photoshoot, you have used the camera properly, you have used the lightings properly, you have done the product editing as well.

So friends, you have completed a big task.

Yes! You have completed a big task.

Till now we have seen how necessary planning is, planning something properly leads to better results.

So in the same way, plan a day & note down a shot list through which you can click many images.

We also saw that when you plan, you will have to see which camera should be there, what type of light should be there , which type of background should be there.

See guys, if you have a mobile, then mobile too can be a very good tool for you to click a photo.

Sunlight is also a very good source for lighting.

And for background, a white curtain can also be a good tool for your product shoot.

So friends, you can plan according to your budget.

It is not like you should have a DSLR camera or a high definition light or an expensive background.

There’s nothing like that.

You can shoot according to your budget, okay?

You can hire a professional or can start from a mobile camera and background.

So that is all that we saw in this video.

Plus we also saw how important editing is.

Let’s take an example that you have made some food & you have served it in the same way as you made it.

Due to this, what will happen is that it won’t get reflected that much.

But if you decorate the same food a little bit, the person eating it will not only get the taste but it will look appealing to the eye also.

In the same way, when you show the product, finishing is very necessary & that is what we understood in editing.
