Welcome once again to this special training program of Learn Vern, where, I Sushant Mahato, will be teaching you “How to sell effectively on E-Commerce?”
So come, let’s start with today’s special topic.
Friends. You might have heard the word “catalogue” many times. You might have visited many malls and other shops, where you might have heard the word “catalogue”.
“What is a catalogue?” and what is the importance of catalogue in E-commerce. We will learn all about it in this study program.
So, “what is catalogue?” and “preparation of catalogue”.
So come, let’s start with an example. You can see an example on your screens.
I am sure, that you might have seen at least 1 catalogue physically while visiting a mall or any other shop. When you hold it in your hands, there is a totally different look. So, what do you experience when you see it? Have you ever wondered, how much work has been put through to make that catalogue? Look, every catalogue is made with one or the other purpose.
The catalogue that is visible on your screen, is made with the purpose to promote gadgets. Here they have provided some detailed information regarding that particular gadget such as the “price” of the gadget. Then what are the “features” and “uses” of the gadget? And, many other things, like how can you go for it? Etcetera. You will get each and every piece of information, in this catalogue. What is the meaning of a catalogue?
Now, what is a catalogue? A catalogue is nothing but, “Product catalogue for online stores include information such as color, options, prices, sizes, country of origin, materials and more, as well as, different types of products require different details and information”.
Yes.
If your product belongs to a different type or a category, the information will vary according to that.
So, a catalogue is nothing, but a collection of information.
Yes, a collection of information that includes the name, description, colour, size of that particular product, and many other descriptive information. Okay.
(02:52)
Now, what is “product cataloguing?”. So, product cataloguing is nothing but a process, where the seller provides a complete description, of their product through images, sizes, and many other things.
Let’s have a look at it practically. You can also view it on your device in another tab, while watching this video simultaneously.
Okay.
So first, pay attention to what I am showing. And then you can check it later on your browser as well…
So, starting with this, look, I will explain this to you with an example. I have just taken some examples, from a few different websites. If you want you can also search for an example related to your product and check it.
This is just an example. Here, I have selected a product randomly. When you search for any product, look here. They have displayed the product image very beautifully, and with different angles.
Now, here on the right-hand side, you can see the headline, the price, then a few “special offers, delivery option, payment options, colours, sizes, and the seller”. Then here you can see all the “product details” like “length, fabric, pattern” and many other things.
A detailed description is given here with the manufacturing details. Yes. As, Who manufactured this product?
So, friends, I am going to give many other examples like this. The one we saw right now was the example of “Flipkart”.
Now, let me give you an example of “Myntra”. Here also, there are many images. One image, two image, three image, four five six. There is a collection of the images but along with it, you can see there is a video as well, where a girl is giving a full demo on this particular product… There she is telling about, how to wear it? And in what ways you can style it? How many pockets are there? Etcetera. She is displaying all the benefits and features of the product. So, please go and explore Myntra’s website once. You will notice how beautifully they have included all the information, regarding the products. They have provided some “best offers”, then “ratings”, “complete the look” and many other things.
Look, they have bifurcated their product based on different patterns, styles, colours, and sizes. You can see that the images displayed here are a bit broad and the look is also different with more clarity and this comes under the apparel category. Apparel means clothing. And clothing requires detailed photography. No matter what your product is, photography should be appealing. We have included this topic, especially in a different module. If you haven’t watched that module yet, please do explore it. Okay. (I hope you are following).
In this series of examples, I would like to show you the third example, which is “Pepperfry”. I like to give the example of this particular website because they have included one more thing.
Have a look. They have added a new feature here, which is 3D. Yes, you can actually view the product in 3D.
Look. When I click and zoom on this product, and move a bit, you can see I am able to rotate the product from all angles. This is a 3D, product, catalogue.
Yes.
This is a 3D product catalogue. They have not just uploaded the images, not just the video, they have also uploaded the 3D view along with them.
If your product can also be shown in a 3D view, then follow this pattern. This is not included in the normal catalogues. You can call this a “dynamic catalogue” where users can click and see the virtual live image of the product from all angles.
So, Pepperfry has added this feature which is very appealing. I request you to visit the Pepperfry website once and explore it.
I would like to show you one more example in this series which is “Alibaba.com”. This is one of the most famous websites worldwide. It is an international website.
Look here, they had added a video and a few images in this catalogue and they have displayed every minute description, and piece of detail about the product in this catalogue so that you can get each and every piece of information related to the product.
Look. Here you can see the product price for buying “100 to 500 pieces”. Then what is the price if you order more than 500 pieces? What would be the price according to the size?
They have included each and every small detail, where along with the product details they have also added the information of the company profile.
So here you can see all the manufacturing details of the company. I strongly suggest you visit and explore this website at least once. There are many other websites. Go and check the website, that fits best, according to your product category.
When you visit the websites, you will notice a lot of content, on each page. So, we will also have to create some content.
(08:57)
“Content writing for products”. Now, what is “content?” Well, content is nothing but a collection of different things. Collection of different images, texts, videos etcetera.
Suppose let’s say, we want to promote something. Anything. Let’s say we want to promote a product. Now, to promote a product, what medium can be used?
For example, let’s say we are sitting in a hall and I am selling a pen. As I display the pen, you can see it visually and hear me out, as well as I can explain the features. So, the medium that I use to provide the information about my product can be said as “content”.
Yes, content.
No matter how I display my product whether by writing, by clicking an image, or by shooting a video. So, through all the mediums that I am displaying my product to you, those mediums are called “content”.
Well, yes, content.
In today’s digital world, almost everyone is familiar with the word “content”. Right now, you are watching this video which is also content only.
When I am sharing some information through any medium, that is content. (Are you getting it?).
Well, the important medium of the content is images and videos, that we have already covered in our previous modules. If you have missed it, kindly do check it out.
There is one more very good thing about content which is “text”.
Yes, “text”. What do you mean by text?
So earlier, we saw the text which includes product detail, size, colour that was written on the website.
Let me show you that once again practically. So, when you have a look at the product details on this website closely, you can see the headline here, then the product description is written here, in the text.
Have a look at “product detail” which shows the description of “place of origin, model number, warranty”, all of these are written in text.
Then as you scroll down here, you can see the “product description”, which includes “product name, measuring method, measuring site” and every other smallest of details.
Check any website… Whether you check “Pepperfry”, you will notice the same thing like the headline, then other descriptions in text. Look. “Delivery” and complete “details” of that product.
On this website too, you will see a headline, then description, and many other details.
When you check Flipkart also, you will see the same thing. Headline, description, offers, etcetera. Each and everything is described through the text.
Now the question arises- how to write this text? How can we include the text in a proper form on our website or any platform? This whole session is regarding this only.
First of all, try to understand what is “content”?
So, content can be a “text, image or a video”. We already discussed about image and video in our photoshoot module. How to click images? And how to shoot videos? What kind of light is required? What camera can be used? Etcetera, etcetera. We already covered all these and many other things in that module.
Now, one more thing that is very important is “text”. Yes, text.
Now, whatever text you write should not be copied. Keep this in mind. The text you are writing for your product in your description should not be copied. It's okay if you copy the headline, but that should also be modified. But the description should not be copied or what will happen?
When a person searches for your product, your product will not be shown first but the product that you copied the description from, will be displayed first.
So, in this training program, we will understand and have a look at the things practically one by one.
So, stay tuned.
