The $ GET method is used to send data to the PHP script by using the URL parameters. The $ POST method, on the other hand, is used for sending data to PHP by using an HTML form. The POST method transfers information via HTTP headers. The information is encoded as described in case of GET method and put into a header called QUERY_STRING. The POST method does not have any restriction on data size to be sent. The POST method can be used to send ASCII as well as binary data.

The GET and POST functions are a powerful tools in your PHP toolbox. They enable you to extract data from a form and, if needed, update a database. It's easy to use these functions because they extract the content of a form field and construct a URL respectively. The GET function only passes the variables you want to your page whereas the POST function is designed to send data from your page into a database or somewhere else on the server

GET and POST are the two most popular HTTP methods. GET is for viewing data without changes while POST is for changing data. They're not only about the two most popular HTTP methods, but also about how they can be used in a number of different contexts. For example, a search page should use GET to get data while a form that changes your password should use POST .
