A router connects LANs and WAN access interface ports to the service provider network and provides internetworking between them. Serial connections or other WAN interfaces are examples of these interfaces.

With a WAN, a company can have more control over their sensitive data. They can also have the flexibility to access their data from anywhere, which is better for those who are constantly on the go. The benefits of a WAN device are that they allow an organization to have more control over their sensitive data.
