EtherChannel makes use of enhanced physical ports to create a quicker connection. Between two switches, STP will not block redundant EtherChannel bundles. All interfaces in an EtherChannel bundle are treated as a single logical link by STP.
The benefits of ether channel are:
It eliminates the need for an expensive dedicated circuit for each data stream.
It provides higher bandwidth and better Quality of Service (QoS) -It allows a network administrator to monitor and control all the traffic on a single collision domain.
The cost of implementing ether channels is comparable or less than installing separate circuits for each data stream with the same bandwidth requirements.
There are 3 methods to configure EtherChannel in your network: the PAgP and LACP negotiating protocols, or Static mode.
If you want to connect a vSphere host to an EtherChannel, you must first construct a Static EtherChannel. Because the commands to set up Static in Cisco are "mode on," this is sometimes referred to as "on." When the EtherChannel is set to Static, there is no discovery or advertising because the physical switch creates the EtherChannel right away.
