A next-generation firewall is one that employs packet filtering and application inspection to improve network security and protection. The phrase "next-generation" refers to its intended use as a replacement for packet-filtering firewalls.

The next-generation firewall is a type of firewall that provides protection from a variety of threats, including malware, phishing scams, and the latest security exploits.

It is important for organizations to balance security with their ever growing need to remain competitive in an increasingly digital world. A next-generation firewall can help them do that.

There are three basic types of firewalls that are used by companies to protect their data & devices to keep destructive elements out of network, viz. Packet Filters, Stateful Inspection and Proxy Server Firewalls.

Examine a firewall's performance under high regular traffic loads, especially encrypted traffic, before deciding on one. To best match the performance expected in the production environment, this evaluation should guarantee that all firewall services, including logging, anti-malware, and URL filtering, are enabled.
