Service password encryption is applied to all passwords, including username passwords, authentication key passwords, the privileged command password, console and virtual terminal line access passwords.

Most routers and switches by Cisco have default passwords of admin or cisco, and default IP addresses of 192.168. 1.1 or 192.168.

A configuration of a password on Cisco IOS is the username, the domain name, and then it just has another layer of security where there's another layer that you have to put in your passwords.

  • Configure the router into privileged mode by typing the show privilege command.
  • Identify the current password with the line terminal length 0 command.
  • Change the password with the line enable secret newpassword command where newpassword is the desired password.
