Drafting Effective Policies with Example

  • Determine the need for an opening.
  • Choose whether to hire from the outside or from within.
  • Examine the job description and write a job advertisement.
  • Choose acceptable (external or internal) sources for announcing the opening.
  • Decide on the steps of selection and a possible timeline.
  • Examine resumes in the company's resume database/ATS.

A hiring policy is a declaration about how you hire people. It specifies your company's preferred hiring processes and ensures that your staff recruitment process is consistent.

  • Choose a title for the policy that is appropriate.
  • Recognize why a policy was written in the first place.
  • Use plain, straightforward language.
  • Your company's image should be reflected in your policies and procedures.
  • Human resource policy must be well-defined.
  • Make the HR policies as user-friendly as possible.

The policy establishes the objectives to be accomplished in the recruitment and selection process, which are targeted at attracting qualified persons to fill a position with the best candidate.
