Pathfinders in Illustrator

Pathfinders In Illustrator

You use the Pathfinder panel to combine objects into new shapes. Use the top row of buttons in the panel to make paths. Pathfinder option is available at window menu. Click on it, and a toolbox will open. In that, two more option are present. One is shape modes & another is pathfinders.

  • First shape mode is 'unite'. Unite tool combine any two objects easily.
  • Second is minus front. Minus front removes the first object.
  • Third shape mode is 'intersect'. Intersect gives area which is made by intersecting of two objects.
  • Fourth shape mode is 'exclude'. Exclude removes the same space from the objects.

As we use shape mode for two objects, pathfinders is used for more than two objects.

Pathfinders have tools like divide, trim, merge, crop, outline and minus back. See the video for how to use these all tool. Every tool is explained with the examples.
