You can draw any line or shape you can think of with the Pen Tool. It allows you to add anchor points to existing paths, remove anchor points from existing paths, and create new anchor points.

It appears that you have the dreaded "rubber band" option enabled. Uncheck "Enable rubber band for" the Pen tool in Illustrator's Preferences, under the "Selection and Display Anchor" options.

The Pen tool is undoubtedly Adobe Illustrator's most powerful tool. It enables the artist to construct shapes using freeform curves, and most curves observed in the "real world" may be recreated using the Pen tool with practise and competence.

Character design is usually a 2D character concept based on a character description. With Illustrator, you can quickly transform a rough drawing or even a blank slate into a unique and captivating figure. By tracing an existing piece of artwork, you can quickly create a new drawing.
