Mesh Tool in Illustrator

Mesh Tool In Illustrator

You can find the mesh tool in the toolbar. Its shortcut key is U. For advanced mesh, go to the object menu and select create gradient mesh.

Mesh tool is used when a realistic effect is needed, while gradient mesh is used when a cartoonish effect is required. Mesh tool is also used when you want to give a 3D effect to an object. Using supportive grids, you can reduce mesh effects. To apply shading on an object, use the mesh tool.

In the 'create gradient mesh' option, by changing rows & columns, you can see a direct effect on the object in preview. So, according to that, you can change your mesh. In the video, a live object drawing of cherry is shown using a mesh tool. See the video for learning how to apply shades and glow on an object.

To give the mesh a stroke look, go to the object and select the path. Into that, click offset path. The offset path will behave like a stroke for the mesh object.
