One of the primary building blocks of animation is strong poses. Even the simplest pictures require a character to strike a solid pose: one that is physically accurate and visually appealing.
Select Create > Pose > in the Trax Editor. The window for Create Pose Options appears. In the Name box, give the pose a name and then click the Create Pose button. Maya takes a photo of the character set's current location and saves it as a pose in the Visor's Character Poses tab.
Go to the frame where you want to hold the key frame. Right-click a time line and select Tangents>Flat. Now slide the time line forward 20 frames using the middle mouse button, and set a key (or Key Selected channels).
