An 'external reference' to another AutoCAD design file is known as an XRef. Many additional files can be referenced and shown as if they were one. For a variety of reasons, these are employed in larger projects: They keep file sizes to a minimum.
Select the Xref file from the drawing area and click the Open Reference icon on the Edit panel of the External Reference tab to open it in another AutoCAD window. This will open the Xref in a new window, where you can edit the Xref drawing directly.
Xrefs are adaptable and simple to utilise for a variety of DWG kinds, whether they include a single item or a whole design. When the host drawing is opened, updates to the external drawing display automatically, and notification of updates is provided during the host drawing session.
There is nothing in model space in the xref file, or the Model tab has the erroneous content. The drawing pieces are laid up in paper space on a layout. AutoCAD only imports content from an xref drawing's Model tab, not the layout tabs.
Type Xref in the Command line and press Enter to launch the Xref Manager.
