In the last topic we learned System Testing. And In this topic we will learn about Alpha Testing. We will learn Introduction; we will take an example of Alpha Testing. And we will see why Alpha Testing is used. Very famous companies like Microsoft, IBM, Google, who launch their software product in the market that software goes through 2 types of testing Alpha and Beta. Alpha Testing is performed by highly skilled testers on site. That means the Alpha Testing will happen in our own organization. The testing of it will happen in-house. In this the testing team will test the entire application. In this testing there will be no involvement of the development team. Before releasing the application in the Beta testing, whoever is the team will do the Alpha Testing. What is the main focus of Alpha Testing? It is the real user who will interact with the application, that we do in Alpha Testing by using Black box or White Box technique. We will take an example, imagine that we are launching a website in the market for the general public. So the Alpha Testing is done by internal people as well as Beta testing is being done by outside people. If anything is being used for internal organization only, in this case only Alpha Testing will happen as it is not for use for the general public. Similarly, Alpha testing will be done for their own use and see how the application is behaving. Is it responding as per the requirement of the user, how user friendly it is? And how is the performance? Now why Alpha Testing? Why does Alpha Testing happen? Alpha Testing is done so that there is no scope left out in identifying the bug in Beta Testing. In the alpha testing team there needs to be highly skilled professional testers. Who can ensure that the product is complete and the product should go for the Beta Testing in the next phase? What else do we get to know from Alpha Testing? We will get to know how the software will behave, is it reliable or not. How will the real time user behave in the environment? Any show stoppers or any serious issues, we will get them in Alpha Testing. The error that we are detecting should be with respect to design and functionality, so that it can change. If there is any issue in the design, if the button’s design is not properly done. Because of that the user is finding it difficult to click. All these small errors that highly affect the applications, those we will find in Alpha Testing. We read about Alpha Testing. We saw examples of Alpha Testing and we even saw why Alpha Testing is important. In the next topic we will see Beta Testing.
