LinkedIn Boolean Search
Hello Friends, welcome back!
Friends, have you ever faced a situation wherein when you run a search on LinkedIn and 1000 of search results are displayed, but you don’t get the desired result.
Or, a situation where, when you are making use of your LinkedIn’s commercial account and you get to know that you have reached your search limit as you have run too many searches.
But the fact is, you actually don’t know from where you should start off so as to reach your target audience easily.
For this, we have Boolean search and are made use of. Boolean search is an advanced search tool that we can make use of on LinkedIn, to improve the search on LinkedIn. Not only will you be able to organize your keywords but you also will be able to seek better results.
Now, you may feel that this is very complicated or difficult to use, but in reality, Boolean isn’t that complicated as it sounds.
And it runs on a specific logic where 5 key operators are used and those 5 key operators are made available on this search panel, hope you can see it on my screen as I type.
“And”
“Or”
“Not”
Quotation marks
And brackets
Simple??
Now, let us see how we can make use of these operators while making our search.
Let us first understand “OR” operator
OR – basically provides you with options in your search results, thereby you can create a list of possibilities.
For example if you want to make a search for a particular position. Either you want a Director OR a partner in a firm, OR an owner
So when you make a search with these keywords, you will come across only those profiles who are either owner or director, these kind of result will get generated.
(PAUSE)
Director Partner
Owner
Owner
Owner
Managing Director
Owner Partner
Did you see this? You get very targeted and specific results only.
Next we have the “AND” operator.
It is very very simple to apply. Basically it is used if you want to make a search using 2 particular options, that is,
“This and This”
For example:
Director
And
(Pause3, as he is typing)
He should belong to the Technology industry.
So, here we have the results.
All the results that have Director and Technology will get fetched and displayed to you.
Now, if in this you do not want a particular terminology, for example “Not it”
Okay?
So, except for IT, we will have the results, the list of all those who are at the level of Director with Technology related organizations or firms.
Here, we also saw the use of quotation marks. A Quotation mark is basically used to bind the expression. For example, we enclosed both the words, that is, Director as well as Technology within the quotation mark. This means that we want both of these words in every search result.
Now, if we want to make use of brackets, we have a simple way to do so.
I want a Director Or Owner Or Founder And startup or technology but Not IT
If you see my screen, you will be able to see that this search has fetched very specific results. This is purely because you have made use of Boolean search.
So, as you just saw, you can easily create a search and get the desired search results on LinkedIn.
You can now connect with them, chat with them and if things work out then you can also get them on board for your organization.
Generally Boolean search is helpful when you are hiring for key positions where you have some specific requirements.
And for those specific requirements, we have to design our search query by making use of all these operators, that is, And Or Not quotes brackets.
I hope you will now be able to make use of LinkedIn in a better way and as a recruiter this will be of help and be of support too.
