Navigate to the repository's home page on Select Settings from the drop-down menu next to your repository's name. Click Manage access in the left sidebar.

  • Select New repository from the drop-down menu in the upper-right corner of any page.
  • Give your repository a brief, memorable name.
  • Optionally, give your repository a description.
  • Select a repository visibility level.
  • Choose to Create a README for this repository.
  • Select Create repository from the menu.

A repository stores all of your project's files, as well as the revision history for each one. Within the repository, you can discuss and manage your project's progress.

GitHub Free now comes with an unlimited number of private repositories. Developers can now use GitHub for free for private projects with up to three contributors per repository for the first time.

  • Select Preferences from the GitHub Desktop drop-down menu in the menu bar.
  • Toggle between these panels to see or edit your settings: To add or remove a GitHub or GitHub Enterprise account, go to Accounts. To select an external editor or shell, go to Integrations.
