Types of Sensors in Android


In this video we are going to talk about Sensor types in Android.

The first sensor type is Proximity sensor. It generally detects the human body that when it is near or far with there mobile phone. It turns off the screen while on call, this saves the battery.

The second sensor type is Motion sensor. Motion sensors are useful for monitoring device moment like shake, rotation, swing, tilt. The sensor can measure the acceleration force in m/s2 that is applied to a device on all three physical axes (x,y,z) including the force of gravity.

The third sensor type is accelerometer sensor. Accelerometer sensor helps us measure the acceleration along a given axis. It will basically tell the system that is user for holding the phone in vertical or horizontal way. The auto rotate option in our mobile phone works with Accelerometer sensor.

The fourth sensor type is Orientation sensor. It helps us with the position of the phone relative to earth's horizon and as such specified in degrees rather than coordinates. Google recommends you to use the accelerometer and magnetometer to calculate orientation.

Another sensor type is Magnetometer sensor. It works as a compass in our phones. It is used to measure the strength and direction of magnetic field. It could be used in our navigation application development as it helps in determining direction.
