Hello friends, welcome back to LearnVern. In the last session we saw that in the year 2021 how many users of India are actively using Facebook and similarly how much of the population is using Instagram. We also saw at what rate the users on Instagram are increasing gradually. We also looked at the percentage of male versus female users.
So come on let us move to today's session where we will see how many users are available on Youtube, LinkedIn and Snapchat. We will also be looking at what population of India are actively using these platforms, what is male is to female percentage and many such statistics that might interest you.
Let us begin with Youtube first. We saw in our earlier sessions that the most widely used social media platform is Youtube.
During this pandemic and even after that, you would have seen that the use of video content increased rapidly. Many video content got created and many video content got consumed as well.
There was an addition of many new youtubers and many people started their own youtube channel. Some started a channel related to hobbies whereas some started a youtube channel related to education.
Many people also started looking at and considering youtube as their professional career option.
I want to talk about some numbers here. Close to 448 million people in India are using Youtube either from mobile or desktop or from tablet. Different devices are used to access Youtube.
If we talk about the percentage of male is to females then the female percentage is very healthy, that is close to 31.2% and that of males is 68.8%.
Now people are on youtube, but what do people search on youtube? We can see here a very important statistic that we fetched from hootsuite, a platform that we refer to for this data.
If you see on the left, there is “search query”. So search query means:
What string did people search for?
What did they use a keyword search for?
So as you can see, song, movie, video, songs, DJ, Gana, Hindi movie
So, did you see how many searches are made by people on Youtube?
So what is predominantly seen here is that people want to get entertained. Thus we see that many humour channels on youtube are being subscribed for and are increasing day by day.
So as far as my experience is concerned, I would say that entertainment related content is consumed the most on Youtube and is followed by technology related content. When a new phone is launched, people look for its reviews. Or when a new car is launched, all the videos related to it are easily accessed on youtube.
Also if we talk of the times of Covid, when companies could not host offline events, they started hosting events online. They used to livestream their events on youtube, facebook, instagram and thereby they could bring a group of people together.
Thus Youtube today has become an important social media platform.
Let us now talk about Linkedin. It too is an important social network. Infact I would put it this way that LinkedIn is your ongoing resume.
If you are working somewhere, then you mention details like your title, description, the job description pertaining to that company.
In case you change your job, that is when you shift from company A to company B, then you enter details of the new company with your title and description in company B. So this is your ongoing resume.
Right, got it?
A lot of my friends are working in the HR domain and during an ongoing conversation with them they mentioned that these days most of the profiles are screened by them from LinkedIn. Before lining up any interview, these HR actually visit the LinkedIn profile of the candidates to understand the profile, their actual skills. So the HR community is very active on LinkedIn.
Let us look at some numbers. Close to 71 million people in India are using LinkedIn.
28.3% are the female audience and 71.7% are the male audience.
If i talk about the reach quarter on quarter then the user base of LinkedIn is growing by 1.4%.
A couple of days ago, I read in the news that Snapchat has crossed 100 million users in India…. This is a very big milestone for Snapchat. And I see that many teenagers within the age group of 13-19 years are using Snapchat widely and are also using its filters.
So if we talk about numbers then close to 40.6% are females. So if you try to recall the numbers of other social media platforms that we have seen so far you will realise that the female audience of Snapchat is very high as compared to the others may it be youtube, facebook or even if we compare it with instagram we will still see that female’s favourite social media platform is Snapchat.
Even the male audience present here is close to 56%
So overall Snapchat is one of the fastest growing social media platforms.
