Directives come in a variety of shapes and sizes:

  • Attribute directives: When a matching attribute is identified, the directive becomes active.
  • Element directives: When a matching element is identified, the directive becomes active.
  • Component directives: When a matching component is discovered, the directive becomes active.
  • CSS class directives: When a CSS style that matches is identified, the directive becomes active.

Directives are DOM element markers that instruct Angular JS to apply a certain behaviour or even transform the DOM element and its children. Simple AngularJS allows you to add new properties to HTML called Directives.
