The following are some of the common types of SQL queries:

  • SELECT statement: This statement retrieves specific rows from a table or view.
  • INSERT statement: This statement inserts new rows into a table or view.
  • UPDATE statement: This statement updates existing rows in a table or view by changing their values.
  • DELETE statement: This statement deletes specific rows from a table or view.

The Structured Query Language (SQL) is a specialised language for querying databases and updating, removing, and requesting data. SQL is the de facto standard database query language and is an ANSI and ISO standard.

MySQL, Microsoft Access, Microsoft SQL Server, FileMaker Pro, Oracle Database, and dBASE are some examples of popular database software or DBMSs.

Data definition language (DDL), Data manipulation language (DML), Data control language (DCL), Transaction Control Statement (TCS), and Session Control Statements are the five types of SQL statements (SCS).
