It's the industry-standard programming language for interacting with relational databases. SQL for Data Analysis was created to make it easier to get specific information from a database by using simple queries.

SQL (Structured Query Language) is a database management language. It's been around since the 1970s and is still the most popular way to access data in databases today. Data analysis done in SQL is easy to audit and reproduce when compared to spreadsheet methods.

Because SQL is such a simple language, beginners should be able to pick up the essentials in two to three weeks. However, if you expect to use SQL at work, you'll most likely require a greater level of proficiency.
