The load() method retrieves data from a server and places it in the specified element.

Creates and loads a database from an input data file. The Load function creates and loads a database from an input data file. It can be used to load a database for the first time, as part of a database reorganisation, or after modifying the DBD specification.

According to what I've learned, the load event is always asynchronous, unless the picture has already been cached (in some browsers). Only putting the code in a callback, like you did, is a reliable solution.

The contents of a URL are loaded into a specified HTML element with $. load. It serves a much more specialised purpose than $. ajax (high-level).
