What is Serial Input

What is Serial Input?

This video of the IOT course shows how to get data into an Arduino sketch from the serial port. Data can be sent to the Arduino from the Serial Monitor window in the Arduino IDE.

A user can enter data in the serial monitor window’s input field to send values and data to the Arduino. You can use any serial program or even a custom serial application to send data to the Arduino instead of using the Serial Monitor window.

In the previous video, we saw how to make a circuit in tinkercad, same way for understanding-‘serial input’, the example is shown in the video. You can do the same project as explained or make a new one and try it on tinkercad.

According to our application, we can design circuits using serial input, digital input and analog input.

Serial input is a method of communication between the Arduino and the computer. The Arduino is an open-source microcontroller that can be used to control many different devices.

Serial input is one of the most common methods used by Arduino. It is used to read data from a serial device such as computer, USB devices, or other serial devices.

  • The Arduino is a cheap and easy to use microcontroller that can be used to build countless projects. One of the most popular uses of the Arduino is in the Internet of Things.
  • One of the most popular ways to use the Arduino in an IOT project is by using Serial Input with a USB-to-serial converter connected to it. This way, you can write data into the Arduino directly from your computer without having to do any programming or other complicated tasks.

Applications of Serial Input in IOT Arduino:

  • Sending data from one device to another
  • Controlling the speed and direction of a motor
  • Monitoring the status of a sensor

Serial input is a way to send data in real-time one byte at a time. It is typically used when the Arduino has to work with sensors or other devices that require small amounts of data on a regular basis.
