Select Mesh Tools > Create Polygon Tool to place the polygon's points.
Press Ctrl and click the first vertex of the hole before finishing the polygon. Click the remaining vertices after releasing the Ctrl button.
To complete the polygon, press Enter.
You may sculpt virtual 3D surfaces in Maya the same way you sculpt real 3D objects out of clay or other modeling materials. Polygons are used to create the virtual 3D surfaces instead of clay. It is advised that you use a graphics tablet to fully utilize Maya's sculpting capabilities.
Tools from the Sculpting shelf can be used to sculpt a polygonal model. These tools are also available from the Mesh Tools > Sculpting Tools menu. When you move a sculpting tool over a part of the model, the vertices in that area are repositioned, changing the model's 3D form.
