You can use the particle instancer on the same particle object many times. When you choose the particle object and open the Attribute Editor's Instancer Attributes section, you'll see an Instancer Nodes menu where you may select the instancer node that corresponds to the parameters you wish to change.
One method for instancing geometry at particles is to use Maya's particle instancer. Create some particles first. This can be done with an emitter (for dynamic particle placement) or Maya's nParticle Tool (for individual particle placement). Maya's legacy particles as well as nParticles are supported.
Select the nParticle object you want to edit in the scene view. Select the nParticleShape tab in the Attribute Editor for the nParticle object. Set the Radius value in the Particle Size section.
